Default Cam Gear Question

Is my cam gear off too much?
It's a d16y8 but I haven't been able to find where the cam gear should be at. It's adjustable but I'm not sure how it's adjusted. It's currently running on a chipped p28. Not sure what its tuned for because I got the car this way. I have a stock z6 p28 coming in.
Anyone's thoughts on this? Specifically the cam gear timing.

If you have the stock cam gear, IT IS NOT adjustable.

if you have an adjustable it would look like this..
See the bolts? Thats how the timimng is dialed in.
If you dont know how to adjust it, then take it to a reputable tuner.
FYI you dont see many gains using one of these and a chipped ecu.

Center it. See that middle line with the circle on it? See the arrow on the middle blue ring? You want those to point at each other. Pay a professional to adjust it correctly after zeroing it.

Sure, if you want to blow up the motor.

OP, do yourself a favor. Borrow a friend's car. Drive to your local parts store. Buy/rent/borrow a timing light. Get your car to spec. If you don't know how to do this, check out the FAQ thread, or get a service manual and start reading.

Seriously, do that ASAP, unless you just feel like grenading the motor.

I already have a timing light that I used to work on my C3 Vette.
I heard that for this car I have to short the computer and then adjust the timing on the dizzy? I'll check the FAQ right now and see what I can do. The car is currently my daily.

When you say to spec do you mean adjusting the cam gear or just checking the dizzy timing?
I would like to do this all myself, to learn how.

Neither were any help to me. I got to it at work and adjusted it myself. Can gear set at the line with the O and dizzy timing adjusted. It maxed out at around a tiny tiny bit before the first line. It needs to be advanced a bit more but the hold downs don't get it move anymore. Any ideas? Might've been due to my idling issue though.
