Default Grinding into third gear

I have a '95 GSR w/ 78,xxx, new clutch and if you give it (anything above 5,000 RPM) it will grind if you shift it fast into third, but if you wait about a second and then put it in, it won't grind....that sucks, i wanna shift fast....

any ideas?

how the hell did you make it do that so soon. you are a real racer. my synchros have been fine so far. i think most of it is shifting technique. i destroyed my 3rd gear synchro in my 93 civic coupe in like 25k. it was my first manual and i sucked, kinda like now.

My 94 GS-R had like 98k on it when I sold it. I only had it for about 15k of those miles, tho....some old guy owned it b4 me. Anyways- that Y80 trans was the ****! It never ground ever! Even powershifting...it was great! those were the days......Have you guys ever driven a thoroughly "broken in" B series VTEC cable trans? That is a little difficult...those things grind like crazy.....kinda sux. I miss my hydro trans. I put GM synchromesh fluid in my Y1, and it helped out a lot....but it still grinds in 2nd and a little in 3rd if Im racing.

Try to change the MTF, or it might you synchros....which are not cheap to replace.

A slow syncro is just as much as a newer tranny from japan. You can get a tranny for your car for 3-400 depending who you know i guess..... its at least 500 to get the synchros changed out...... BTW, if you push the clutch in all the way (even if you are racing), it gives your beat up synchro time to spin up and its less likely to grind.....hope this helps at all since its probably not gonna get fixed anytime soon. Just so you know also, my buddy has a 91 HB w/ a B16B and a T-28 turbo, car is fast as f*ck, and everytime he gets on the freeway and gets it into 5th it grinds so bad it sounds like its gonna fall out of the car!!! BUT its been like that for a while, and he drives this car hard, so dont worry, its more of an inconvenient sound, than a big problem, you gotta lotta miles before you gotta worry about it ?!

I would hurry and get it replaced... My 95 LS tranny started doing the same, now at low rpm's it pops out of gear... But Im trying to get a 97 R tranny now... Maybe rebuild the LS later if I do another swap...

could it be that the tranny fluid is overfilled and that's causing it to grind??

it cant be overfilled, why? becuase it starts to pour out, if it wasnt level to begin with, it would still just burn off

I've got 135,xxx miles on my tranny with no major problems. The only problem I have is when it gets really cold outside (30 and below), it gets more difficult to get the car into the gears.
