Im hoping to run some Lucas Oil next year in Division 7. I will have to find the all motor class. SS/EX, but I don't think I will be running 9s or 10s. I've run NMCA this year and plan on running more of their west coast series. I just want to race!!!

He didn't run very well. This is first round. He redlit. I hope he figures it out. We need all the imports we can get to keep the classes going.

Are you saying that Index racing in general is hard? Or are you saying that HIS particular Index is a hard one? Because a 7.92 index for a car that's been MULTIPLE 7.1's at 210+mph is hardly a hard index.

He qualified 30 with a 7.94. I'm sure you'd agree to be competitive should run a 7.3. Are there any Honda hot rods that can do that consistently? I'd say its a hard index
We're not talking about Hot Rod cars. Ladwig was driving in AA/AF, not BB/AF. He was driving the Pro FWD car. The Pro Front Wheel Drive Cobalt he has has been 7.1@214 several times. So NO, 7.92 is not a hard index!
quickest that car has ever been is 7.16@203 Gardella went 7.10@21*
I stand corrected on the speed, as it was a while ago. I had Gardella's car and Ladwig's car mixed up. I knew he had been 7.1's, though! That's still .76 under the index, which is VERY competitive in Comp!
You DO know that Marty has a Hot Rod car and a Pro Front Wheel drive car, right? AA/AF is for Pro Front Wheel Drive and BB/AF is for Hot Rod cars. His Pro Front Wheel Drive (AA/AF) was built to race against Gardella, Hunt, Kubo, Bergenholtz, Rado, etc. It went 7.1's back in the day just like the rest of those cars did! It's just not a tough Index (for him, with this car) when you have a vehicle that has PROVEN that it can run WELL under it! BB/AF is MUCH tougher than AA/AF is. That would mean that a Hot Rod car (Eggum, Kempf, Merman) would have to run 7.99 to hit the index (8.60) for permanent....
He didn't run under the index because he had problems. What happened in Vegas isn't indicative of what that car has done or can do.

No, Kempf is still Sport Front Wheel Drive. Nice guys, I talked to them all at MIR last night. I was using him as an example because he is one of the really big horsepower Hondas out there right now, that's all. Eggum, Merman, Gardella, (Papadakis? I can't remember) are the only other ones to have run 8.0's or quicker. Please include anyone who's run that quick that I forgot!
I tried a few years ago to run BB/AF....we were kicked out after running 10.20@147 or so and qualifying dead last at a Lucas Oils event at Atco. Once my picture and the speed I went showed up on DragRaceCentral.com, someone from a different division called Division 1 and complained that I didn't have a funny car cage. This is, of course, after they took my $225 for car, driver, and 1 crew member. This was after I had 3 or 4 different D1 tech inspectors look the car over with a fine tooth comb. This was something that doesn't really show up in a rulebook. They said: Someone from Division 3 called us after seeing the picture of your car and the speed. What your car has is a "rulebook cage" ie: 8.50 cert. What you need is a 25.2 or 25.5 cage in your car before we'll let you compete again. My reply: 8.50 is my cage cert. There's NO WAY IN THE WORLD I will ever run 9.50, let alone 8.50. Their reply: 8.60 is the class index. The National Record for your class is 8.30. Your car has to be certified for the National Record whether it can do it or not. My reply: Can I see that written in the rulebook? Them: It's not really "written", but that's the way the procedure goes. Me: Okay, so why let me waste my money to race if this rule is in place that I can't see? Them: Uh, ah, well....."someone" called and complained and we agreed that they had a valid point. So, until you change your car to be within the rules, you're done. Me: You don't have to worry about that. I won't be back. We all know these guys are terrified of turbos, and I will never be able to out-money them. Once I come back after fixing this, someone will complain about something else to make sure a turbo cannot hurt their chances.
It's cutthroat in Comp. Those guys will come to your pit, smile in your face, offer you a beer, and run crying to the NHRA the second they think your combo has any little advantage over theirs. I know Tony Niemczyk has been well received over there, but during my short time over there, it was anything but that. I have plenty of places to safely race where I'm treated plenty better and I have WAY more fun. The chances of us going back to ANYTHING NHRA are very, very slim.

I agree, Comp is not a friendly place for turbo 4 cyls. I have not had a problem in div 6 and 7 in super stock, but have been around that class a bit. my car fits in comp, but have no interest to run that class. div 1 and 3 is a whole different story. i have never heard you have to meet the rules of the et of the class record holder, a little in left field for sure.
