Honda Civic EX Rear Seal Question 1999
I am in the process of changing the rear crank seal on my Civic. I also need to change the oil pan gasket and distributor o-ring. I have decided to remove the aluminum seal plate so I can install the seal easier. Is there a gasket that seals the plate to the block? Also, I have read in other posts that the VTEC solenoid seal can leak in this area. Where is this located? Are there any tricks I need to know? Thank in advance. This is a great DYI website.

I have removed the tranmisssion already. I have a lot of oil in the clutch housing. I'm trying to figure out what seals and gaskets I will need.
Are you asking whether there's a gasket between the engine and clutch housing?

The leak is from the engines rear main seal (crankshaft). The seal is pressed into an aluminum plate that is bolted to the engine. Is there a gasket between this plate and the engine or do I use hondabond? I haven't removed the pan yet. It's also leaking.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. Like the previous poster indicated, some FelPro kits I have seen on eBay provide a paper gasket with the seal. Seemed confusing. Thanks again.
