Default Street Tires for High HP FWDs

I'm curious to see what everyone is running to put the power down. Advice and reviews are highly welcomed. I am looking to pick up a set for next season but its extremely difficult as there is so many different reviews on all the tires i've considered. I am really leaning toward Toyo R888 right now, before that was the obvious choices MT streets and BFG street radials

If you have experience with the R888s please chime in.

Cheers.

There is a thread in the drag racing forums asking your same basic question.

Link: https://honda-tech.com/forums/drag-racing-36/best-street-tire-boost-3021719/

What i have gathered after reading that thread b4 the pissing contest started about who puts down more torque lol

Ra-1's = same compound as R888.... Ra-1's have 2/32 more thread depth...

Ra-1(pricey) or nitto neo gens(cheap) for a good, REAL, street tire that holds power....

or

MT/MH Drag radials are best choice for a "street" tire.... BFGs suck

Thats great thanks

Hmm the ra1s may have more tread depth which is a plus for the life of the tire but also has many grooves(neo gens too) and simply the more tread touching the ground the more grip so technically the R888 would perform better in comparison no? And best bang for buck.

i see what your saying.. but the Ra-1s are only 20$ more on tire rack for a set of 4 than the r888 so your not really saving that much.

but some1 with more experience than myself should chime in... sorry i cant be of more help. GL

I dont consider the r888, ra1 as street tires. Sure its dot but still a R compound.

Saying that because the tire has more surface on the ground equals more traction is just insane. So you are telling me a 36" wide slick will grip just as good as a 5" wide radial in the snow? Too extreme? How about when it is wet out?

While tread pattern does have SOME to do with traction, it is more about the TYPE of surface they are goimg to be used on and MATERIAL they are made out of. The tires are what your life DEPENDS on, so why cheap out? Everyone should have at least two sets of wheels for their vehicle, if not at least four sets for the true enthusiast.

Wow..
So for the record I consider you as a true enthusiast.
Let me stir the pot a little.

You claim to have 40 cars.
40 times 4 equals 160.
160 times 4 equals 640!!!

You have 640 wheel in your garage? How do you keep them all organized?

I think that's more han most tire shops keep in stock bro.. your crazy bro, I like you but your crazy..

Hahaha I enjoy it.

225/45/16 R888 here. Run them at about 20psi on the street. They heat up fast and have held about 525whp in 3rd. Havent gotten em to spin 4th yet. Not even close unless its real cold out. There's a lot of room for improvement in my suspension so Im excited to see what I can do with them.

They are also great in the rain and are not noisy at all on the highway surprisingly (unless you are driving to get em warm). Safer and more practical then a drag radial IMO. And I can still get spirited on back roads if I feel like that mood.

Time will tell to see how long the tread will stay good. I've read they can only do so many heat cycles before really losing their grip. About to bring em inside from the garage for the winter.

R888 for the summer. Then, an all season for the winter. Great traction all year round!

I love my Nitto Neogens, to me they have it all for a price that cant be touched by any other tire. What kind of power are you putting down? How are you controling boost? Is boost by gear a option or is this strickly a highway monster that you can care less about gears 1 and 2?

I have 27 vehicles. Some of them are just daily drivers like my Cadillac's/Wife's European garbage and others are collectors. Very few actually see track time or much road time. Either way, depending on what you do - a set for the drag strip, autocross, winter, and street. I am a true believer in cars that are driven throughout the year and have snowy climates, you should have summer and winter tires. Also, yes - I would hope I would get some free stuff after the money I have spent...

It is comical when you pull up to a stop light and people look over to see you have M/T ET Streets on the front and rear...
