Default Stress Analysis: FEA

I am looking for some basic structural components to analyze. I am doing a project for an advanced graduate level FEA course that I am currently taking. I thought it would be cool to see if anyone here had any interesting components they wanted analyzed. I am not looking for any complex assemblies, as I have only a short period of time to have this complete. I will be doing a full report and will provide you with the complete results and design recommendations. Is there any takers?

What program are you using? I use Abaqus 6.11 on a daily basis. Mainly doing uninteresting, but very very difficult non-linear simulations (large plastic deformation, large but simple structures, non-linear analysis etc.).

Wtf, Def is on here?!

Race egr, I'm thinking of having some custom hubs made up, so that would be ideal - they need to be as strong or stronger than stock itr stuff.

What do I need to provide you for analysis?

Race Egr,

I hope you will be around when I have to design a tube front/rear subframe for an NSX, I will like your assistance in about a month if the offer still stands.

Def - I mainly use Ansys (both workbench V.14 and classic). I also use custom Matlab code for more basic analysis.

Black R. - if you have a CAD model of the hubs that would be great. Also, do you know what material you are planning on using?

I'm in the UK, and currently designing some hubs. PM what you are planning it might be something your interested in.

Son, I was on HT since before you knew what a fart can exhaust sounded like!

Free FEA is rare - sounds like a good deal. Just make sure you correlate loads and boundary conditions back to actual usage.

I've failed so many FE analysis that came on my desk when some guy put a ton of encastre conditions on multiple parts. Thus the part had a ton of "virtual support" when in reality you want to look at displacement across a part. It also changes your stress level a lot when that spindley bracket actually has a load on it and not a boundary condition supporting it.

Not saying you'll make those mistakes, but it amazes me how many analysts don't even think about how their modelling methodology is affecting results.

I have a strut bar design that needs some FEA. I can provide the CAD files to get this going.
