temp sensor acting up '90 DA9 GS
Hi there Honda world, my car's temperature on my cluster keeps coming on and off. cant tell if it's my cluster or the actual sensor going out.
I checked all fuses and saw that the sensor is all hooked up.
one other thing, my speedo doesnt work either.

Speedometer on a G2 is cable drive, [mechanical], it can be a broken cable, broken cable drive, or a bad speedometer gauge, pull the cluster and make sure cable is connected, if so, disconnect and move, [drive] car forwards and see if inner cable turns, if not, either the cable is broken or the drive is broken, if on the other hand the inned cable does turn, then it is the gauge that is bad.
The ECT sending unit is the one wire, [yellow/green] sensor on the pass. side of the engine under the distributor.
Unplug the sensor, turn on the ign. switch, and ground the yellow/green lead, gauge should go all the way up and stay there, if you ground the lead through a 12V test light the gauge will also go up but not all the way, how far depends on wattage of test light bulb.
If the above works, it is a good indication that the gauge and wiring to it is good.
You are going to have to explain what you mean by "keeps coming on and off", do you mean it constantly moves around from cold to normal to hot, or just from all the way cold, [off] to normal, [on].
In the first case, it may mean air in the coolant system, bleed the coolant system to remove the air, in the second case it may be the gauge itself, a connection problem at the cluster or wiring.
An explanation of exactly that the temp. gauge is doing and when would help. 94

yeah it starts off cold and will rise to normal op temp but when i drive it goes back down to cold. it starts rising when im stopped and will go back down as soon as i drive. and the speedo cable still spins when i drive so the guage must be broken. is it ok for me to just unplug the cable from the tranny so it doesnt keep spinning in my cluster?
