CV Boot-Don't know if it's leaking or if the grease is normal
Well the axle never squeaked this bad until I went to the 1/8th mile track tonight. The squeaking is rather random, happens sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. It is usually when i'm going under 30 mph and after I have driven for a while. I checked the cv boot, and nothing is torn. There is no grease on the cv boot itself, but where the cv boot meets the axle...seems like it has been clamped on...there is grease. Not alot...but there is grease, do I need new cv boots? Is there any way to tell if it has done axle damage?
Not 100% sure, but I think the CV joints would only be "functioning" when you're doing a turn. That squeaking may be the wheel bearings.
Never heard of axels squeaking(Just clicking). Now, I heard of the lower ball joint squeaking(Mine did) Push down on the front side of the bumper, and see if it squeaks.
Well I listened again tonight, itz not really a squeak and I posted it wrong. It is more of a slight metal to metal grinding sound, but very vague if u know waht i mean. That is not my only problem now, alot of smoke of coming out of my exhaust and I have no idea why. If you guys think fixing the white smoke out of my exhaust is more important than my drivetrain please gimme some recommendations. Thanks
Grinding could be wheel bearings or brakes. Not sure what the white smoke is. I believe I read somewhere white smoke could indicate a cracked head (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). If it's the wheel bearings, and the bearings get crushed up more and more inside the axle, you might have to replace part of the axle $$. You might want to get a mechanic to look at both problems.
