Purchasing used MDX. Known issues I need to look for?
Hey gang,
I'm in the market for a larger car. MDX is topping the list... but I'm really hesitant to throw down that kind of financing without knowing everything I can about the car. So, are the any reoccurring problems I need to watch out for? Common problems or known issues?
For example, 07 Civic Si's have 3rd gear pop-out, sunvisor splitting, clutch slapping, paint flaking...
Any information would be helpful so I can check for them when I shop would be amazingly helpful. Thanks in advance.

Whelp... looks like this is just a really robust and reliable vehicle or most MDX drivers aren't the type to hope on the forums.
Regardless, I had them replace the tires due to a wheel imbalance. Other than that, it's a pretty well built machine.

i cannot comment on that model of MDX, but my model has been known to destroy transmissions and for tight valve clearance with miles. there is also the issue with the PCM controlled from mount, which causes the clunk during acceleration and shifting.
Transmission slip, kick around 80,000 miles or so. Evaporative leaks, oil pan leaks, rear main leaks.
Havent seen valve lash issues yet.

the slip might be nothing more than excessive engine movement, which translates into shudder. that's caused by the broken mount. i have it and have obtained a 60 dollars replacement to install. if you do the 3x3x3 transmission fluid change, you will have a happy transmission. my MDX is over 180k on the original drivetrain with no issues.

The old 2 shaft 5spd AT was not at good as the newer 4 shaft 5spd AT used in the 09+.
For some owners, even with the best of care, still experience AT issues.
My uncle's Gen 1 TL ran 200K+ miles and the AT was fine, up till the day he sold it. He is not a car guy and can't tell you when or what, or if anything was done. He was the original owner.
So it's a roll of the dice.
