94 Ls odometer doesn't work. Everything else does
I've tried to search this but iono if I'm doin it wrong or what the deal is. But I can't seem to figure out why my odometer doesn't work. I switched vss sensor with a know working 1, still nothing. I traced the orange wire from it, into the ecu and seems to have contact. Is it supposed to have a power source? Stock gsr tranny, chipped with chrom p28 ecu....it would come on and off every so often before it just died. I cleaned the plug connectors to the vss sensor as well.....hmmmmmm any fuse or something for it? Thanks fellas

Spinning it? Ummm I have a drill. Lemme c if I can figure out how to hook drill up to sensor....lol if it sp
there is a cable that goes right into the speedometer on the back of the cluster.it is a bitch to get in correctly.sounds like your problem if your cluster has been removed recently..
A cable? Yea it has been removed recently...I dnt remember seeing a cable tho. Just the 2-3 plugs...I'll check it out again...thanks bro

no, there's no cable. he is mistaking this for pre 93. 94 is an electric vss
know what? find the cluster pinout and test for varying voltage at the vss signal pin while somebody drives, or run it on jackstands

Does the vss need power? Like the plug that's on top of sensor. It has 3 wires. Does one of them put power to sensor n tranny? Or does the part inside tranny spin as is moves, and sends a signal to speedo or ecu?
yes. a 3 wire sensor will have reference voltage (usually 5 volts), reference ground, and signal. you can check for power and ground at the sensor. KOEO.
Does the power it needs come from battery or ecu? I checked all my fuses n both places and they were not blown but could this be a fuse issue?
signal should go back to ecu, then to the cluster. otherwise, ecu would never know speed
unless it goes to the cluster, and then ecu. not 100% on that. but the ecu does recieve the signal at some point for sure

but, either way, youre on the right track.somewhere there is a bust in the connections.
Although a simple 12V test light is a very handy tool, but unless your 12V test light is the LED, [computer save/low load] type, do not use it to test reference voltage, it can damage the ECU/ECM.
You have already replaced the VSS with a known working one, finding and trying a known working cluster, [maybe borrow a friends] would be the simplest way to troubleshoot your problem.
To bad it is a 2.5 drive to your closest PicknPull a cluster assembly there is $28.99, you go there and pull a cluster, pay for it, then immediately, pug it in and try it, if it does not work, you go get another one, not practical if you have to drive 5 hr., maybe worth the drive if you determined, [by swapping in a borrowed known working one] that the cluster was the problem. 94

yes, i know it sucks. but that's what shops pay thousands of dollars in diagnostic aid programs for. if you go to a reputable shop with a case of decent beer, i'm sure they'd be more than happy enough to print you out the diagram. mitchell is a great program for systematic diagrams. see if they run them.
you'll also need a multimeter

Lol case if beer? LEZ GO! Haha as long as I can help drink it! Lol nah but the closest shop to me is like 2 n half hours away. One way.....And not even sure if it would b called a "reputable" shop... Smh
