Default over heat

Hi, my name is Henry, I am new here so please be easy on me....lol. I just purchased a 96 EX cpe 2.2L, I am having problem with over heating when sitting at a stop light or idling for more than 2 mins. Whenever the temperature needle goes up, I step on the gas and rev it about 1500 rpm, temperature goes down. Coolant level is in check, fan is on. Previous owner (friend of mine) told me that he already change timing belt and water pump about 25K miles ago, car now has 162K. What could it be?? Thanks a million!!!!!!

sounds like a bad water pump. did he use OEM Honda? you may want to pop the cover off and look for any coolant leaking out of the weep hole on the pump itself
