Default Won't go into gear, even with motor off!

My buddy called me this morning, saying his car won't go into gear, even with the car off. He said it worked fine yesterday. It's a 95 d series, I'm not sure where to start looking, but I'm guessing a linkage or low tranny fluid? Where should he start?

take the shift linkage off. try to move the shifter pin by hand. if you cant then its your tranny. if you can then its the shift linkage

Most likely your shift linkage. and also check the shifter bushing and see if its not torn. then check if you have clutch fluid.
