Default need some info..

Hey im new here and i was wonderin if u could help me. I've been into cars for a while, and i know things about performance. But nuthing at all about sound systems. I juss bought a 9' sub from a friend cause it was a good deal, i was wondering why do i need a speaker box, and what does the box do? Does it amplify the sound or something? Sorry if i sound stupid, i just wanna know what it does. Thanx

The enclosure contains the back wave and prevents it from interfering with the front wave off of the cone. That interference will cancel each wave out and you won't get any output from the speaker.

Different enclosures sound different too. Sealed usually sound the best; very smooth and accurate. Ported boxes are a little more punchy. Bandpass enclosures are the most efficent and boomy yet worst sound quality.

Do a search on the internet or on this forum to learn more about each enclosure and it's pros/cons.
