2002 Honda Accord Trunk Leak
I have a 2002 honda accord that has a leak somewhere in the trunk. The gaskets have all been resealed in all the tail lights and break lights, I have resealed around the back window and I still have accumulated a trunk full of water around the tire and soaking everything that is in the trunk. What should be my next step?
Take EVERYTHING out of trunk. Get a big roll of paper towels, lay them all around the trunk, close. Spray garden hose a little everywhere and open to see wet spots,,, Is this a trick question ?
This happened to me once. When I first got my car. Since the car came from the coast, I took it to the local car wash and had the undercarriage sprayed. Since it hasn't happened since, I assumed it must have had something to do with that. It also might have had something to do with that pannel that holds the rear license tag. Mine was loose and may have allowed the spray to get into the trunk.
Mine does this as well if parked on a hill with front of car facing downward. As near as I've been able to figure out (I pulled trunk lining out and found water streaks) water accumulates in the upper corners of body under trunk lid (circled in red) and then flows over the trunk weather-stripping spilling into trunk. If I park facing up the hill, it doesn't leak as I assume the water just runs along the weather-stripping and down the back to the bumper (direction of red arrow). When we repainted the car last year, the trunk was slightly out of alignment so we "tweaked" it some which has seemed to help so I'm guessing that helped to reform a better seal between the weather stripping & trunk lid.
