Default Converting from AWD to fwd

Is there a quick way to do this or should I just pick up a ls gearbox and swap it in (mine is a 99 5 speed crv)? There is nothing wrong with my drivetrain now, its just I will never utilize it and the extra rotating mass is keeping some performance from me along with mpg's (while it may not be a noteworthy number it is still there). Thanks guys

remove the drive shaft. I noticed slightly more power and no mpg gain. Putting it back in for the winter.

So you can just unbolt from the rear output of the gearbox and be fine? I was worried it would start to leak or something would fall out.

Nice! Sounds like pulling the driveshaft, diff, and rear axles is a quick awd delete then. Thanks for the knowledge!

yeah. the awd doesnt really ever engage if you are driving normally though, so removing it for summer or whatever is really about 99.9% pointless. the only way i would do it is if your diff is effed from lack of change and making that grinding noise. if flushing hadnt fixed it.

BUT if i ever swap i will likely convert to fwd though, to save weight and avoid blowing anything up.

It also makes for easy exhaust routing

I did my timing belt yesterday and noticed my rear driveshaft's u joints were horrible. Guess thats what 221k miles will do for you...I pulled the driveshaft out and it drives fine. Going to order some new ujoints and throw them in hopefully before the snow gets here.

I am not positive but I dont think you can pull the rear axles out because the bearings are different than the FWD ones...I might be wrong about this but it was something I read in passing. Just take a look at the bearing setup if you are going to completely remove the diff and rear axles.
