Custom cone making question. (Truncated Cone)
Guys,
I am looking for a specific cone size, length and taper and I was wondering if there was a (free) software or widget that is out there that I can use to design a cone in 2d.
Specifically for this project I need to make a 3" to 5" cone that is 8" long with polished stainless which is not avaliable off the shelf from my local supplier.
I am comfortable making it myself, but I want to minimize material waste and being able to see what I need to mark or even overlay the design onto a peice of metal that I plotted 1:1 scale would REALLY help.
Is there a software/widget out there that I can do this with?
Matt

if you want 3" diameter multiply 3" X Pi (3.14) = 9.42"..... 5"X3.14 = 15.70 so your 2-D dimensions are 8" long sides, with one edge 9.42 and one edge 15.70. Double check numbers with a calc as i just did them in my head

Short side is the half the difference in diameter. Long side is the length you need to make it. Hypotenuse is how deep you cut the sides of the pipe to make the cone.

^Not my picture. Picture is taken from the "exhaust setup" thread on OneCamOnly. IIRC, it's Rushi's pic.

^that is not what I am looking for sxysweed. not at all.
unusual 71-thanks, though i understand the calculations.
I would like a program/widget to basically just input my few numers into that comes out with a scaled drawing. One part being that once you determine the lengths, getting the basic shape drawn onto a peice of metal that is just the right size for it is mostly trial and error due to the curvature required.

just use AutoCad. probably the easiest peace of software out there. draw your flat pattern shape, and either print it 1:1 scale, or convert to a DXF file and have it water jetted
