Default Changing spark plugs...found a lot of oil

As the topic states. I was changing the spark plugs and found A LOT of oil around the spark plugs (what the hell is that area called?!). Background info: I am restoring a 92 DB2. B17 engine, has been sitting for at least a year. Interior is done, when I saw the oil I figured it was a leak from the valve cover gasket. As I am changing the gasket I notice there is a lot more oil than I initially thought. I tried to take some pics. There is so much oil, I cant event get a socket in there to get one of the plugs out. Any help is appreciated...

when you take the valve cover off flip it upside down and you will see that there are 4 rubber seals (one for each plug). As they age they will become hard and brittle then oil will leak past them into the hole for the plugs. Clean up the area and replace them and you should be fine.

ps, im a fellow g2 owner and am jealous of your db2, looks like aztec green?

Thanks. Yes, Aztec green GSR, in HORRIBLE shape. But I hate to see her go to the yard so I am trying to restore her. Maybe you guys can give me some more help. How do I clean this area? I was just going to get a rag, shove it in there, and spin it around til it comes out clean. Is there a better way?

Thats what i did, just shove some paper towels and soak it up wrap the spark plug socket with paper and shove it in down and back out to clean up the area, when you get most it soaked up remove the plug and clean it up more, the rest will pour on top of the pistons and burn out shortly.

there are also seals at the bottom of the spark plug tubes. if you did not notice oil dripping down from up top, where the spark plug grommets are, in the valve cover, thos lower seals may have failed. in which case, cams need to come out

looks like the rubber boot(s) from the bottom of your spark plug wires has come off and is sticking to your spark plug. You'll need to use a long pick or needle nose pliers to try and pull the boot off the plug(s). You might need to replace your spark plug wires.

Pull cams? damn it, I have no idea how to do that. I didnt notive any oil at the top, all in the chambers. Well, I do not want to half *** it. Let me figure out how to pull the cams and take those out too. Maybe the gaskets are in this valve cover gasket kit I bought off ebay...

I'm pretty sure the bseries engines don't have the rocker arm orings/seals

We all aswered your queastion and one guy comes and says you need to pull your cams to check onother seal. And you believe him and are gonna pull the motor appart!. do you even know how hard it is to do that?

I have no freaking clue on this magic mystery seal under the cams that might leak oil into the spark plug holes. You will show me something new thats for sure!
I took the liberty to pull cams out for you compliments of me! so lets see what seals he is talking about! please show me how and where the oil will get in there and of all things why the hell should the cams come out?

He's mistakenly referring to the Sohc engines that have o rings that go under the rocker assemblies (marked in red)

I have no idea how hard it is to pull the motor apart. I've worked on many a DC5, DA9, E46, E36, however, this is the first project I am insisting I complete on my own. With that said I APPRECIATE your help. You saved me a lot of time. I would have looked into it, figured out there were no seals and scrapped that idea. You saved me some research. Installing cams is something I want to learn, so while it may have been a pain, I still want to do it at some point. So I'll shove some paper towels in there and call it a day. Again I appreciate your help.
