The cluster bulb question (probably again)
Hello other del sol enthusiasts.
So I am in the process of changing the bulbs in a jdm sr2 cluster (92 del sol SiR imported), after much internet research I believe these are mainly #24 and #74. #74 for the backlighting and #24 for the warning lights.
This may seem like a stupid question but what is the difference between these bulbs (even Honda could not tell me what they are, only order the part numbers) the best i could distinguish was 74 is 1.4W and 24 is 3W but not even sure if this is correct as the Honda sheet showed the warning bulbs 24? as 1.4W but no info on the backlighting bulbs.
Which raises the next question, why not just make all the bulbs the same ? What happens if they get muddled up ?
and finally if anyone can translate size 24 and 74 into UK sizes that would be great.
All replies welcome. Thanks.

not my photo but same unit. there are 7 backlight bulbs with the purple dots on, 9 without the dots all black bases. ignoring the grey one. so the ones with dots do the backlighting and the ones without do the warning and turning lights and so on.
I have looked hard, measured with the limited equipment i have, a ruler, swopped them between each others holes and they appear to be the same size. the only difference i can see is that the backlight bulbs have the little blue sleeve on.
my question is are they the same wattage bulbs and all the same ? does it matter.
I don't know whether they're the same/different wattage, but it's not worth messing with it.
I replaced my #74 backlighting bulbs with LEDs...and it started to smoke and it burned the housing after a couple weeks of use. Luckily I had my old DX cluster to pull replacements from, so I replaced the regular bulbs in there. Not worth damaging my EX cluster.
But if you're looking to just replace the bulbs with different colors, just get the #74's.
What exactly are you trying to do?

Thanks for reply,
I was just going to change the 7 backighting bulbs as one had blown and it was hard to see whether i was doing 60 or 70 or 80 at night, but i thought i would replace all the backligting bulbs at the same time. which i did with 286 bulbs which i think are the uk equivalent of#74.
However on replacing cluster i got a no c.e.l light and then no start, panic..... so i backtracked took the cluster out and was about to replace the original little blue capped bulbs when I saw that somehow the c.e.l bulb and base was missing... and i have searched in the harnesses the footwell and everywhere and i do not know where it has gone (new one ordered arrives tomorrow 6 quid, about 10 dollar for one bulb and base ouch)... so i swapped a backlight bulb into the cel slot, leaving one backlight hole empty, car started but cel light remains on... swapped the oil pressure bulb into cel slot leaving oil lamp hole empty, no cel light no start, finally put oil bulb in c.e.l slot, put backlight bulb in oil hole leaving one backlight hole empty and car starts but cel light stays on.
I am trying to figure out therefore why this is happening and if there is a difference between the power in the warning light circuits and the backlight circuits... i will know more tomorrow when the orderd part arrives and i try again.
but i am not using led's just 12v 1.2 w bulbs in the backlighting.
The nice parts man at honda said he will ask one of the technicians for me, but i see a lot of cluster bulb threads and very few definitive answers about bulb sizes, even the printed honda schematic with the parts list did not list the bulb power or sizes just the honda replacement part number....

I put LED's (NEO 5 I believe) in my cruise, aux, defog and hazard switches across the upper dash and they haven't been a problem. They are really bright. I got them at superbrite.com. I am going to be replacing the same bulbs you are in my dash. Going to order a coule of T1.5's and see how they fit. Led's draw less power and have a longer life span. Unless you want an insanely bright dash panel order the lower intensity and be aware that they are polarity specific. So they only work one way.
FYI I put an LED in my turn signals in the cluster...and now my hazard lights completely stopped working. So I think there may be a requirement for proper wattage. The entire rear of the cluster seems like it's all on once continuous/closed circuit - so where one bulb doesn't work they will all fail; at least that's what I think. Because when one of my LEDs burned the housing, the entire cluster (including the AC lights) dimmed to black until I remedied the problem.
So yeah...try to get the proper wattage for each bulb.
