Default turbo y8 vs gsr

like the title states im trying to figure out what will be a better set up for me

alittle bit of backstory baught a 98 civic ex about two months ago was told it had a swapped motor with only 60k on it (starting to doubt that, but that wasnt the selling point for the car) the body has almost 190k the car has a slight grind going into 3rd at high rpms

i already picked up a new timing kit, bearings, mls headgasket, arp headstuds and plan on porting the pump cause im going to throw a little turbo on it for now cause i always wanted a turbo car.

the question is should i stick with the single cam and build it. i can get new pistons and rods for cheapish (srp and eagle) then slap in a p28 with hondata and get it tuned or should i go and get a gsr swap. im not looking for an insane amount of power but i also dont want to dump money into a turd about 300whp would be fantastic ofcorse with supporting mods like suspension and other things

i seen plenty of fast d series but a gsr can go much further just kinda looking for some input thanks guys

If your goal is 300 then I would stay with the single cam. Obviously the GSR motor has more potential, but is quite a bit more expensive. You can answer your own question by setting a realistic budget and going from there. Goautoworks is a good place to start for a decent turbo kit.

Well said. There's no doubt a dohc vtec motor set-up is the way to go, but will be more expensive to achieve the power you want. Slap a turbo on the sohc and with a decent tune I'm sure you'll be impressed.

alright thanks guys yea i think i might just find a y8 block so im not rushing around trying to get it bored and all that stuff since this is my only car so i can take my time with it. yea like i said i seen plenty of d series pushing big numbers, and since i already have it it should be alot less of a headach then a swap then build or building up a gsr block and finding all the parts.
