What wire harness for 90 Civic DX hatchback?
I have a 1990 Civic DX hatchback. It has a 1996 D16Y7 engine. It has been converted to OBD1. I think that is all the conversions but it possibly had MPFI, I'm not sure. I need to rewire my ECU because it is a disaster. I was going to buy a brand new wire harness, but I don't know to get a 1990 for the year of my car, a 1992 because of the OBD1 or a 1996 harness because of the engine. Also, will I need to do anything special for OBD1. Thanks.
The engine is converted or the car to OBD1? What has MPFI, your car or the engine? You don't want an OBD1 or OBD2 harness because neither will work in your engine bay. If you are simply using your old exhaust and intake manifolds off the old car that would be the easiest method to use and just reuse the ECU that came with the car. If you decide to go OBD1 you'll have to convert to MPFI if you haven't already then go from there.
I just talked to the guy who sold it. Alls he said was its a p06 ecu wired converted to mpfi and obd1. I'm new to car terms and world so i don't really know. He just did a horrible job and wires are becoming disconnected.
Well P06 is OBD1. You can confirm if you take some pics of the ECU and post them here. Unfortunately you're not going to be able to just buy a plug and play harness for it. Rywire.com make some OBD1 engine in OBD0 cars that would be your best plug and play bet as long as your distributor plugs are intact. Can you take some pics of your engine bay and I can help you determine what was hacked and what you need to do next?
Yea I can. My wife dragged me to a state fair so I won't be home for a few hours or maybe not even until tomorrow. I'll post ASAP.

Ok wow hmm. Yeah that is definitely a mess of wires. Looks like a combination of a tuck, obd1 coversion and mpfi conversion. Does the car run and run right? If it does it kinda hard to tell you what to do. The 90-91 SI harness is the closest thing that'll work, but depending on how bad the interior harness is hacked you may have to replace that as well.

My plan/hope is I put a new harness in there and everything will be good

But it says not for DX, and my ECU might be different. I don't know what to do...
unless you start with a whole new dpfi dx harness, you just have to follow the steps in dpfi-mpfi and obd0-obd1 procedure to understand it better
when i did this conversion dpfi-mpfi, obd0-obd1 conversion on my old ef it was difficult but also easy. i put a 96 obd2 ls in my 91 civic dx, obd2 dist. and injectors

I'm just going to shell out a bunch of money to get someone to put a new harness in and do it right. This is a little over my head.
alot of people turn away when they see a wiring mess but if you go through it slowly, youll get it. when i did mine, i started out with no wiring knowledge but i did mine with no errors which really surprised me
the only help i had was my dad explaining to me what a continuity test was and of course the internet

I'm afraid that even IF I get it going again, it wont last. I know there is at least 1 short somewhere. I also don't want to wire something wrong and fry something. If I pay someone it will take 1 day, It will have new harness and someone who knows what they are doing will be doing it.
