B series swap help.
Hey guys I wanted to ask for advice on which motor to used when doing a B series swap for the first time on my 99 civic coupe. I do want to have vtec. Which motor would you guys recommend and i'll read up on them. thanks.
yeah, if u have a sohc vtec now just keep it. for 1200 bucks its gonna be hard to find a vtec bseries swap. U could probably get a ls in there for that and just do a vtec head swap later
^ What he said. You probably couldnt even boost a d series for 1200. In that case get a d16z6 with Header, Intake, Exhaust, and if you have some extra money put in a cam and get a tune, might net you +20 hp. It will still be a fun car.

Get the biggest engine with the most horsepower that you can afford. Budget in for labor if you're not doing the work yourself and expect there to be additional things that go wrong during the swap if you try to wing it.
Comparison shop at someplace like HMO if you have no idea what these things cost.

$2300-2800 for just the engine, transmission, sensors. And like grumble said put aside some money in case you run into problems cause you will. Around $700. Labor for a B series into D series in my area can range 900-1300. Cheaper if going into a B series

i boosted my single cam for 1500 bucks and 1200 of that was for hondata with boost options and solenoid, fuel pump, injectors, and a map sensor. paid a hundred bucks for the turbo kit (junkyard and ebay setup) and the other 200 was just odds and ends. I did just run a 12.4 @ 114 with it
I got all the money for this from selling all my bseries stuff haha
u also need to consider how ur states inspection works, seeing as how u have a 99 which is a obdII

I got lucky and found a mint condition gsr swap w/ 80k miles for $1500 but the guy needed money and I had cash in hand. It took 2 years to find that deal too. I did the swap myself but still spent another 2k+ by the time I had it running on random things like intake, exhaust, header, obd1 ecu, and more. You would be hard pressed to do a swap for less than 1200 so save some more cash if you really want a b swap.
