Critics, Comments welcome. 12sec single cam
So i put together a turbo y8 about a year and a half ago. I used all junk yard and ebay parts (actually traded a kid a skunk 2 mani for the whole kit), a dinky t3 turbo off of a old lebaron. I left the motor completely stock and have a s300 with supporting mods. Im using the mac solenoid to run boost by rpm.
I just now got it to a drag strip to c how itd perform. I ran a 12.47 at 113 on slicks and a 12.9 at 115 on street tires.
I really only had one issue at the track, i usually run 17psi on the street but i couldnt get more than 15 (if that much, my computer crashed in the middle of the day and last run i datalogged was 14) at the track. I kept adjusting the 120 deg correction for the solenoid, by the end i was adding 1% where it was at -.2 when i arrived at the track. I run 31.6 (average) duty cycle for my 17 psi on the street. My boost actually creeps down when the rpms rise (any help with this would be nice) so i start at 30.6% at 5k and work it up to 31.8 at 8k. Heres a pic of the slip and thanks for any comments or help.

LOL..damn. thanks guys, i take the fam on trips in this thing haha. Only thing i dont like is the smell sometimes makes it into the interior. I have a weird drain line which is too low so the turbo is always burning a lil oil (not enough to add any between changes) and it stinks! I need a new manifold so i can take that stupid adapter out, bringing the turbo up along with the return line. Everything else is great though, i have a act sprung six puck which isnt bad and the noise to me is perfect, sounds kinda loupey at idle (stock cam) but screams up top and u can always keep it on the dl if need b.

its a t3 .42comp and .48exhaust on the a/r is all i can tell you. I was just looking at the thread i posted when i put this thing together and man there was some people determained that this turbo would be utterly useless. heres that link : https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/puttin-together-lil-turbo-d-help-turbo-id-2938289/
i have a egay t3/t4 but i think im pretty much at this blocks limit. I do also have a a6 block in the garage that i might b putting in along with the bigger turbo but im lazy so il prob just wait til have have a problem with my current setup. that mani is a edlebrock, not saying its super flowing or anything but its def not egay. although i would love a afi mani or sls short ram, just never had the dough
Yea I would have to agree with you. You are pushing the blocks limits as it sits right now. I went thru 3 y8's before swapping over to DOHC. Nice car tho! Very CLEAN! Sleeper!
yeah def the upper limit. those trap speeds you are likely making 300-330ish whp kinda depending on the weight. i love the car its nice and clean the way they should be.
Im all about keeping these blocks stock just cause i think they r more reliable that way and i dont have to put any money into em haha. I do wanna do this a6 or switch to a ls so i can do 350 or so on a stock block.
Clean car and on a budget getting the job done! Build that a6 block and upgrade the manifold and exhaust and call of a day IMO.
**** u think so? i had 22inch slicks on the car but it was my first time ever running slicks. I had like four runs on em and they both went flat after i let out on my last run, my traction bar scraped on the track from like 80 mph. The tires were rubbing on the spindle and the guy that let me use em was like "oh yeah i think i had to use spacers on the last eg they were on". They felt really good coming out the hole and it seemed 7k was the best launching point. I have the ability to run antilag but i really dont think it would of made that much of a difference
this is the type of ebay builds i like to see..you threw cheap parts on it but were not expecting an unrealistic power goal as well as kept it very clean..unlike many ow budget builds i see online..me likkeesss
iv had ebay turbos, wastegates, and manifolds and never had good luck with em. This time garrett junkyard turbo internally gated with the cast iron edlebrock manifold. I even put new deflector rings in the turbo and didnt mark the shaft position so this thing is prob outta balance big time but i never noticed any differance. U just cant beat cast iron, i am considering a ebay (cast iron of course) manifold so i can get rid of this stupid adapter and bring the turbo up some to take care of the oil drain line issue. The best modification i did imo was put on the boost solenoid for boost by gear, that **** made a huge differance in how the turbo spooled. a great investment.
literally no more than 4500 for everything including the car and iv got ebichs on tokicos, master energy suspension bushing kit, some decent rims, and a decent stereo (no subs or anything). The car looks way better in the pic than it actually is. The paint is tuff but whoever did it, did it under a tree or something and never heard of prep work. I also need a new hood and got a half *** fixed rear quarter panal on the driver side where someone ran into my wife....twice, ****** backed into her pulled up then backed into her again!

The only cool thing about having a car with a rough body is you do not really have to worry about little imperfections that you may add in there.
Haha very true! My wife has a 09 si and I worried over the exterior for about a year, then despite my best efforts the paint start fading and cracking on the hood. Matter of fact I just got a letter saying they'd repaint the hood and fenders due to a factory defect but when I took it up there a year ago they said, nah that's normal fo doing highway driving. Also the rood, trunk, and side body lines are all faded and the trunk and roof are already faded to the primer n certain spots. Honda paint ftl!!
Never been a fan of single cams, probably cause im fat and they dont move me around as easy as you skinny folks, but i do enjoy this car! i have ridden in it, and he even let me drive it. and its a damn blast
