ok so i have been doing some research and i find that people say the newer k20z is harder to work on a few different levels. i was wondering if i should get the k20a2 version seeing as it would save me a few grand. if the z is worth it ill pay for it.

 

they are the same engine with only minor differences. the main differences are the tranny and wiring harness.

 

The transmission in the 05-06 models have a 4.7 final drive, vs the 4.3 in the earlier models, so they accelerate faster. The Z1 engine has 10 more hp than the A2, but I believe that's mostly due to the air intake and fuel maps. Neither type is any more difficult to work on than the other. I've heard the chassis/suspension was also slightly improved for 05-06, and the seats are a bit nicer as well.

Basically, as with most other cars, buy the newest/lowest-mileage example you can find.

 

Get a K24A2

 

the question isn't which is best, the question is what are you doing.... why do you need an engine? What is it going in? What are your plans?
