Default Wanting a Deep, Smooth, Quiet exhaust

I have a d16a6 with stock manifolds and 2.25 inch exhaust
My muffler fell off, and I was thinking about just bolting on a cheap replacement for the time being. But how can I get a a deep and mellow sound that's quiet at idle and while cruising? I want as deep and quiet as possible! Thanks!

Greddy sp2, apexi ws2.

Or if you go custom, get a magnaflow muffler. They are usually pretty quite as long as its not thr straight through design.

dynomax super turbo muffler .. sounds like a rs-r or old school HKS . I've had 2.5" system with one 18" resonator and the dynomax muffler on a few set ups.

Nice avatar. My favorite album!
What type of resonator do u suggest?
I'm also considering the magnaflow xl turbo, which is about the same price, and is also fairly deep, quiet, and smooth sounding. But it's hard to tell just from the couple YouTube videos I've found exactly how it will sound

That's what I am using on my hatch. 2 1/4" cat back, 96 jdm type r header, 18" resonator and 25" dynomax super turbo muffler. Yes, huge muffler lol but I love it. Looks almost factory, very quiet and deep.

I had a Magnaflow XL chamber muffler prior. It sounded ridiculously aggressive, a bit loud at wot though. My only complaint was one of the chamber's welds broke (what my muffler guy said) so it rattled at idle rpm :/

^^^ this. cept its a little harder to find a resonator that size with the 2.25 piping.

the old hks and rs*r exhausts are by far my fav. absolutly loved the rs*r i had on my db1 and 12 years ago when the hks's were still around, I tried my *** to find one, but never had any luck. i loved the tips they had.

I cant afford those exhausts anymore, so Ive been putting the same exhaust on my cars for 10+ years. I use the biggest magnaflow 9x4 muffler I can get, and the biggest resonator that will fit. I dont use the magnaflow resonators anymore though. the sound deadner in them seems to dissapear faster than the cheapo resonators, plus they arent square on the ends and catch on **** (cars are slammed). I think the last one I used had a "blue streak" sticker on it and had nice smooth edges to slide over stuff, lol.

The magnaflow tips look really close to stock for the da's and ef's, but my buddy just found another brand that isnt rolled but looks very similar for 20-30 bucks cheaper. i can find out brand if you care.

I get a lot of compliments from non car people and thier usual responce is that they like how my civic doesnt sound like all the other fart can civics around.

i use the straight through, and thats why I use the inline resonator. to get rid of the rasp from the straight through muffler. you might be able to just use a chambered setup, but I never liked the sound from any that we tried.

Slain has it right with the DynoMax Super Turbo, the muffler has flow reflectors inside that help the gases move through the system better. With the perforated tubes, it acts as an expansion chamber. You may not be replacing the entire exhaust right now but a resonator help kill some of the exhaust drone and a spun catalytic converter create a good sound that is growly but doesn't bark.

Alright. I think this is the mifflenim goin robust. Whats the largest size I can use?
I just want the sound to be as deep as possible and quiet and smooth at idle and cruise
I have a stick cat, can I just use a cheap 18" glass pack for a resonator? I'm on a tight budget

Alright I'm about to order :

27 x 10" x 4" dynomax super turbo 2.5" offset in/out $70
two 2.25-2.5" lap band clamps $20

A 31" thrush glass pack/resonator 2.25" $30
Two 2.25" butt joint clamps. $20

For 145 shipped on amazon

What do you guys think? Will this be deeper than my straight pipe, and also pretty quiet and smooth at idle and cruise? Or ami I wasting 70 on the muffler?

I hope its more quiet than that! My straight pipe sounds deeper than that as it is now! I wanna smooth deep tone til I really get into it!
What do u mean by which configuration?
I have 2.25" pipe coming off the stock header into stock cat and straight out. Gonna add in the 31" x 2.25" thrush glass pack after the cat, then into the dynomax super turbo with 20" oval case, single 2.5" in/out offset. That's the plan anyways. Gonna wait a bit before I pull the trigger though

$70 for muffler
$30 for glass pack/resonator
$40 for clamps and tip/tail
$140 total - tight budget!

I'm doing it my self. Hence the clamps
I don't need a stock look. I just need it to fit. I'm more concerned with the sound than making it look stock. 88-91 hondas aren't even listed on their site...

I have that muffler with an 18" resonator. Fit the car nicely and very pleased with the sound.

dc 4-2-1 header
smallest carsound cat I could find
2.25 pipe built with mandrel bends
16" blue streak resonator
24" 9x4 magnaflow muffler
dual 3" magnaflow twin tips.

obviously, this was at wide open throttle. with regular driving its just loud enough to know its not stock.

Obviously I'm new to this stuff, so please bear with me guys.
After doing some more reading I'm wondering if I should replace or remove the cat?
How do I tell if its worn out and needs to be replaced or removed?

tanabe medallion exhaust was great.

very deep. but the thing about being "deep", is that the bass vibration makes you very audible from far away. for that reason i gave it up.

build quality was good and all around very nice. never tinny, or high pitched or annoying sounding. it even growled. i just didnt like the attention, or letting everyone know i was coming down the road.
