H22a4 front crankshaft seal replacement????
Hello, I need some help. So My crankshaft seal I think is leaking... Why I think it's the crankshaft seal because previous owners records show that the balance shaft seal was replaced..: 6 months ago... So it prolly isn't that unless the mechanics put it in wrong. Idk what else it could be under there. But my rear seal is leaking also... Not to bad... So I think the front one is done also. My question is can i replace it with the engine in the car? I havent taken the timing cover off yet.. So that I also can't tell if its the crank seal for sure
but I've never done one.. And just tips and pointers would be greatly appreciated from you guys. Thanks you very much.

Gotta drop the tranny, clutch & flywheel-
if its in the back - if its in the front u gotta remove the timing cover, timing pulley, power steering pulley, alternator belt, driver side motor mount...
its alot of work - i decided to do a stroker kit since everything was already out when my crank seal was shot

Thanks for the help, ya the back one i will do once i move to the new place, but the fronmt i wanna do now. But one more question... does anyone know where there is a picture or site online... that tells me what all other seals there at near the crank seal in the front?? what they are and their location?
Yea, if they are both leaking, might as well pull the motor and replace all the gaskets. I buy my kits from J.I.S Engines. You can buy a full engine kit for like $50. Yea it's cheap, but I have never had an issue yet with one.
they dont have any for h22a4
but i was thinking might as well do timing belt also while im in there, its about time for a new one anyways. and then just a question, i have been searching and found the only crankshaft seal, balance shaft seal, and cam seals... those are the only ones that are in the front of the engine. correct?? or am i missing some?

I've had leaks from all of these (not at the same time) on my various H's.

Thanks for the input guys, i did replace my o ring already, and vtec solenoid gasket, and valve cover. I bough the car, and it was leaking from the cover gasket and vtec.. i did the o ring also, cheap and easy. but i kinda have a little problem, the vtec solenoid still leaks a little bit, i bought an oem honda gasket for it. What are the torque specs for those anyone know? and thanks... im just gunna do the whole t belt replacement with the seals in there... and put that balance shaft seal cover/support on. Gunna by all oem gaskets, so i dont have to do this more then once! i know a shop i havent had a chance to go there and get all data info, but i will. And does the helms manual cover all of this stuff? i didnt think they went into all this detail, but if they do, gotta go buy one!
The Helms is the factory service guide, everything you could possibly need for the car, including all torque specs and special tools Honda uses.
You can find them in print for around $60 last time I looked, but it is a big book ~ 1100 pages. There are places around where you can download a scanned pdf as well, very handy to just skim fast and print pages you may need, or have easy to access on a garage laptop etc.

no im not buying that, im gunna buy all oem honda seals... i dont wanna do all this work to only have the seals go again within the next 5000 miles or whatever they will last!
no i have not. And honestly i think thats whats leaking because the oil is on the back side of the engine at the top kinda under the valve cover. i dont think the front crank seal would have oil go that high.
