Default degreeing non vtec cams

Hey guys just a quick question i gotta ask, I have a cam degree kit i borrowed from my neighbor but there is no way to mount the dial indicator with this particular setup, is there a special setup required to degree the non vtec head, anyone got any pics of this? Also where exactly do you position the dial indicator on the cam/rocker.

Can you affix a steel L bracket where the power steering bracket is held, same with the upper JRSC belt tensioner? Use a mag base and go from there.

All this smack talk you do to people and you have no clue how to degree a set of cams? Ohh, this is too rich!!! Obviously you don't put the dial indicator on the rocker OR camshaft. The valve spring retainer is acceptable because you are trying to measure lift at the valve. As for the mounting point, just like on a VTEC head without the proper fixture, make a sturdy "shelf" for it to sit on.

Or...the smack talk has to do with the fact that you have to degree the cams properly to verify your results are accurate, not to mention the fact that ive only ever done it on small block chevy's. These heads are a tad bit different.

Now you are talking my expertise... GM is my domain, and I will tell you a secret - for SBC you still measure lift at the valve.

What dial indicator stand do you have? Have you got a bird's eye view of your head with the valve cover off? I think I have a idea....

I have two, i have one that has threads for a small block head and a starret that has a magnetic base, however all the parts that were actually magnetic were too far away from the head. Old picture but you get the idea...

OK, remove that threaded stud what's in-between the cam gear's and see what the thread is. Unscrew the mounting shaft out of the starrets magnetic base and see what the thread is. If you are as lucky as me they will be the same... if not purchase a cheap stand, remove the shaft and weld a bolt with the required thread to the bottom of it so you can screw it into the head.

Or you could use that stud by the fuel pressure reg (and the one on the opposite side ).
