Alrighty, I'll give this a shot and try to piece together as much info as possible regarding our numbering system. I know that we have our theories about the R's numbers, but there's nothing solid as of yet. I will check out the pre-existing registry, along with checking H-T archives for past posts like this and I'll put together as much info as I can gather. At that point maybe we'll see a numbering pattern of some sort.

What I'd like to collect from fellow R owners is...

1) year of the ITR
2) number
3) original purchase date (or delivery date if known)
4) last few numbers off the engine (to see if that theory lines up)
5) city of location (don't be too specific, I don't want to help potential thieves at all)


It would be great if everyone took just a little time to contribute to this. The previous post about ITR numbers was a good start for a few owners who have given some info already.
I'll be happy to put in as much time as necessary to finish the project and post up all results so we'll know once and for all if there was a system to the numbers.

The ITRCA site should be up shortly, and it will have a registry for Type Rs past and present.

Great! How much info will the registry have in it? Numbers, years and colors?

What I'm hoping to see is the date of purchase and the last few numbers from the engine as well. Possible to have that too?


And Chris (1107), I have you included already, but you'd like to IM me the last few engine #'s I'll include that as well...

Will do. The registry should have a great deal of info. I believe trey (asahi) is in charge of the new registry. Drop him an IM about this. I'm not sure the engine # or purchase/delivery date will be in the registry's DB, but its possible.

Thanks so far, but keep em' coming. Yes, I have plenty of down time to devote and, since it is one of my chief hobbies, I'll give a good amount of time and preparation to the project...

I'd love to see the info that I gather give us a clue to Honda's system and maybe benefit the registry as well.

It's a good effort to make, but it seems these registry ideas keep popping up, colleting data, then going away. I'm not knocking you, but that's been the history so far. The ITRCA was a good place for it at one time, the database was there, searchable, editable, but then that went away too. Seems someone could've saved the data before it all got dumped in the first place.

 

I know just what you mean. I'm willing to take the time to compile as complete a list as possible (as was attempted before) but then I'll do whatever anyone wants in order to make it available. Hell, I'll email it individually to everyone one the board so they can all have copies. I'd even like to send it to Honda...

But I need your info if it's going to happen. I think past attempts have been dropped because the interest from everyone seems to fizzle. I can't go to people's garages to get their ITR's info, it needs to be voluntarily sent...

 

Has anyone tried to email Honda Motors in japan and just ask about the numbering system...?just an idea
