did anyone else get the notice from American Honda re: an extension of the paint warranty to seven years? it arrived in the mail today. i briefly scanned it but it appears it's for 06-10 and possibly might be for select colors but i'm not entire sure. i know my wife's car's color was included - FBP.
as someone who has had to endure massive paint problems with TWO 8th gens, i am not surprised they took this action.
my wife's Si had to have the roof repainted because the paint literally popped off exposing the e-coated metal. the front of the car how has paint cracking, which is specifcally covered in the letter. thin paint is par for the course nowadays on many brands due to robotic application and the bean counters...incredibly soft clear coat is a problem with some makes, especially honda...but this is a whole different issue and i'm glad to see them taking steps to accept responsibility for an underperforming product.
anyway, i'll post details once i'm back at my computer.
EDIT: SEE POST #11, HERE

Im interested to see if i also get this offer. Im not the original owner, so i dont know if that matters. I have a spot where the clear came off on the rear door molding. In for more details.
Got mine in the mail I think Tuesday. Mines an 09, no paint issues so far. However the front honda emblem did peel off and hit my windshield at 6am a couple weeks ago. Scared the hell out of me.
Just to add, I bought this car used last year and I got the notification, so you should get one?
i recently bought a 07 fa5 in galaxy gray and the roof is fading and so is parts of the hood and front fenders, has anyone actually took there car in for this reason? was going to ge it painted at a local shop here in houston and was gonna run 200 buxs but then i noticed the hood and fenders fading. in for details

I got the letter too. I hadn't noticed any cracking in my hood or fenders, but definitely was losing paint on the roof. I took in the letter with my car, they took pictures and e-mailed them to their HOA rep.
A few days later I got a call that said HOA had approved the paint repair. I took my car in the same day, and there were a bunch of guys in suits, no idea where they were from. Anyway, they all looked at it and spoke among themselves along with a guy from a body shop.
After a few minutes, the dealership guy says that HOA is going to repaint my entire car, and it will be gone a week. I say it sounds great, and inquire about a rental, the guy says no, "the letter didn't say anything about a rental, and you're getting your entire car repainted for free." I wasn't being short or anything, and they're taking care of it for which I am grateful, I just thought I'd ask under the circumstances.
Anyway, I didn't push the issue. Looks like I'm riding my bike for a week.

Honda Service bulletin 12-049
I took my 07 FA5 FBP in this morning, they immediatley took my keys and took it to the body shop. I should have it back between Thur-Mon.
As per the Svc bulletin, it covers all 06-10 Civic's FBP and NHBP with cracking paint, not fading clear coat.
I did not get a letter, I came across the svc bulletin and am the 3rd owner, having just picked this car up in June.

Well... that sucks. My paint is chipping off the front bumper and the clear coat is peeling from the roof and A-Pillar... Bah. I wonder if anyone else with my color has experienced this.
Just picked up my car from the dealer, fresh paint on the hood and both front fenders. I am pleased with the free paint on a car I've only owned for four months.
Even though the bulletin does not say the extended warranty will cover the paint issue on the roof, yall should give it a try because i did it this morning. They will repaint my roof at no cost. Cant wait to see it come out.
This gives me a little hope... my roof is f*cked.
Thank you for informing us. Did you receive a letter? Was your car still under warranty?
My local dealership doesn't have a body shop, so I called the dealer where I got the car in TX, they said they are still waiting for the paint thickness tool from Honda. (should be delivered in a week or two) He also said that he was pre-approved by Honda to fix all roofs too. So hopefully my car will be all good...

k so my wife's car is finally set to get reviewed by a rep. if you peep the first post i mentioned that it already had the roof done a while back.
the current condition is terrible. the passenger side front fender and hood have clear that has failed. the fender is the worst, with it appearing cracked, crazed and WHITE (car is FBP).
there is a large portion of the left roof rail that is failing and every edge of both sides' roof rails is white with clear failure.
i can't imagine how this will work without painting almost the whole car, lol. i mean if you do the rails, you need to do the rear quarter. if you do the front fenders, it'll be interesting to see how that looks vs. the OE paint doors.
i honestly wish i had known about opti-coat in 2007 when she got this car. this would have never happened, despite Honda's defective paint. anyway, the main point of all of this now is to just get the car so it doesn't appear like it has failing paint so she can get out of it. it has been paid off forever, she has put 118k miles on it since new and it's time for her to get something better.

I had my hood and front fenders done back in October. In December I noticed flakes peeling off on the rear window pillars and the clear was bubbling on the roof and trunk. Took it back to my dealer, service rep took one look and scheduled me an appointment to go back to body shop. This time around they painted everything on the car, minus doors and bumpers.
Here's how mine sits after the repaint.

that's awesome they took care of you. that's the exact car we have, same color and all.
my biggest thing is resale value. the fact that it already has paint work from Honda is a bummer, but at least it's not a big deal if it gets more. anything is better than how it looks right now. i use a broker so just as long as it looks good and it was painted properly once Honda addresses it, i should have no problem with trade in when we eventually trade out of this thing. it's almost that time. i can't handle any more things going wrong with this car after what we've been through since buying it new in 2007.
i am leaving it there tomorrow morning. i have a page written up explaining everything plus pics of what happened to the roof prior to them addressing that in August 2011. sucks because the body shop/service manager (small dealer so he did both) got fired after 17 years. i mean, as long as i've been into Hondas since the '90s he was there so i don't have him lobbying for me however i am friends with the painter so he is going to talk to the rep about my car since i won't be able to be there to do it myself.

I had my 07 NHBP done last week, I tried to get them to include the bumper but no luck. The hood and fenders did turn out nice thou, they were cracked really bad.
Here in Saint John, NB the dealer "Fundy Honda" does not have an inhouse body shop. The Honda dealer is owned by the same owner of the Chevrolet dealer which has a body shop so thats where my car was painted.
