head unit gets very hot, no sound to speakers. s2000
I have an AP1 and it came with an aftermarket pioneer stereo with infinity components. everything worked for the first several months I had the car. Then one day the sound cut out, but the head unit was still working. I am fairly sure it happened after hitting a moderate bump, oem suspension, but still a bit firm. I removed the hu and the wiring was kind of half assed so I reconnected and cleaned it up, then I took the door panels off and the speaker wiring was also rigged. redid that and still the same issue, head unit works, but no sound. then I notice that the head unit gets very hot within 10 seconds of plugging in the harness. fuses are good. tried the oem honda radio, same thing.
what would cause the hu to get very hot, and no sound to speakers? a wire touching the body somewhere?

need to start off by probing/metering the power and ground wires, as well as the others for good measure, while its plugged in and on. Possibly a short somehwere in the headunit.

Unplug all the speakers from the headunit. Does it get hot still? Sounds like a blown ic chip in the headunit.
havent had a chance to look at it again, but it does the same thing with both the stock radio and the aftermarket one, so it has to be the wiring somewhere

Ok so the car has infinity reference components in it. I took out the woofers because they were just screwed into the stock plastic housing because they are too big. then I unhooked the crossovers from the door wiring. i plug in the Honda radio, and bam, it starts to heat up without even turning it on. so it has to be the harness somewhere.

Use the aftermarket radio. Unplug the speaker leads at the harness. This way you can see what circuit it is.
