What's up with 99 Accord Engine Malfunction Light at 48K
Curious about Engine Malfunction Light coming on at 48,000 miles. Manual says to check gas cap (and tighten), if light doesn't go out after 3 trips, take it to the dealer. I can't afford to take it in to the dealer right now. Car runs great. So what is the point of this light? Will changing air filter or pvc valve fix it?
emissions related. Triggered an OBD II response. Gas cap related codes might fall under emission related hardward...which might still be covered under a Federal mandated Honda emmision-control warranty. Call the dealer and ask about it and if it would cover what's going on. It might just be a defective rubber o-ring in the gas cap...
How to Read Your Check Engine Light
post up what code it is throwing. I can look it up for you. or google for honda check engine codes. they are all over the web.

Bring it in. It will be free. There is an extended emissions warrenty, you will either get one of the 3 following procedures done:
Phase 1: Clear codes, nothing more.
Phase 2: Replace secondary O2 sensor and clear codes.
Phase 3: Replace Catalytic Converter, Secondary o2 sensor, and clear codes.
Thanks for responses. Code looks to be either 9 or 90, not sure because I only get 9 long flashes.

Code 90. Make sure your gas cap is in good condition and tight. Pull the backup fuse in the underhood fusebox for ten seconds to clear the light. It may take a couple drive cycles to see if it recodes.
