Working on my heel/toe down shifting, but I'm having trouble with tapping the gas. I have a 2000 sedan and the gas pedal sits a couple inches lower than the brake. Is there any way to raise the gas pedal a few inches or do I have to make it work?

Bigger shoe won't help, and will actually exacerbate the problem. OP, you need to wear properly sized, form fitting shoes similar to Pumas. If you have the change, get some Piloti's or Simpson's.

EJ pedals are notoriously poorly located for heel toe. The best thing you can do is get some good aftermarket pedals, and use washers and braces to adjust them to suit your needs. No, you can't move the pedal assembly itself without serious fabrication, so don't ask. Personally, I have the Mugen pedal assembly with a small metal block between the gas pedal and pad, and the height is perfect for me.

Alternatively, you could just start doing ankle exercises. I've found it easier (and more effective) to threshold brake before turns, and feather the gas through and out of turns. If you're just driving on public roads, that's all you need. If you're actually involved in legitimate amateur racing, check out the autocross forums, or talk to some of the guys in your class at the track.

I did look it up and have already read that thread. It came up with a solution to close the horizontal gap between the gas and brake. My problem is that the gas sits to low.

I think I'll try jbpnomad's idea with the metal blocks between the pedal and pedal pad. Or tough it out until I get used to it like many have said in the other thread.

 

honestly I do this with nike running shoes that are pretty bulky 11 1/2's, you just gotta twist your heel over. Also for me I dont have my whole toe on the break it more like the ball of my foot.
