Default Failed Emmissions

Well I failed my emmissions test today. I need to get my tag so this must be fixed quickly. Should I try reapaing my car myself? If so what should be changed out? I failed pretty much every category.

Any recomendations on a shop in the Atlanta area? I have never taken the car in before so a good tune up might be in order. How much is this gonna cost me over trying to go at it myself? Finally, having done all the work on my car I feel like I know what Im doing. If I do take it someplace I would like the experience to be positive. That is if I did something wrong in the past Id like it explained to me in a constructive way. I dont want to be made to feel like an idiot.

what exactly caused you to fail emmissions?
it could be a number of things from o2 sensor, cat, piston rings, tune up, ignition, oil change???

Well Im not sure. I had an O2 code a few months back but that occurred when removing my header for some maintenance. As far as I can tell there isnt a way to tell exactly whats wrong. I think im going to do the following.

-New plugs
-New Wires
-New Cap and Rotor
-New O2 sensor

About the cat. I have a JDM header with the custom cat. A new one is gonna run me 175 from IPS. Can I just grab the one off ebay and get a shop to weld it in using the flanges welded to my existing cat?

no need to get one from e-bay. your local exhaust shop should stock a 2.5 in/out cat.

He's right. Speak to Tim @ A1 muffler in Jonesboro (He actually carries Carsound cats for a reasonable price).
