I was driving to pick up my brother got out the car.. and went back to my car and saw a puddle under my car.. thinking it was the ac leaking water.. turn out it was leaking oil from the tranny.. called my Mechanic and he said that there is a crack on the transmission .. so Now i have to get a new Tranny asap.. now my question is .. DO i Have to looks for a GSR Tranny or what options do i have in choosing a tranny..

LS, GSR, B16, its a 96 so its Hydro clutch not cable so any B series, Hydraulic transmission will work, 94-2001 LS, GSR, Type R, B16 out of a civic
all depends on the gearing you are looking for, top speed vs acceleration

You can use an LS transmission, any B engine transmission should work, I have a GS-R transmission in my 94RS.
With that said, I would still look for a GS-R transmission, you will not like the LS transmissions gearing.94

Yeah if you are used to a GSR that would probly be best..but any year will do, LS gearing is long and boring, but better gas mileage, B16 gearing is short and spunky but 4500 on the highway blows..GSR falls somewhere in the middle
Check this out, but watch the years the ones that are pre 94 are cable clutch and wont work..typically I find the cable trannys are cheap, LS trannys are cheap, B16, GSR and Type R go for a premium..in my area a GSR is $500

I would definitely open the transmission up and see if its just the casing that was damaged (bottomed out maybe?) , sometimes ebay has some used transmission casings for sell. Or maybe im just cheap and looking for alternatives to save that gsr tranny.

Get under your car and see how badly it's cracked. This happened to me before and I went for a very long time by just putting some JB weld over the crack. Worked really well and it's a $5 fix. Just make sure you drain the tranny and clean the area around the crack thoroughly.
I eventually had the case apart when I rebuilt the engine. The expert at my local machine shop welded the crack up and it was good as new.

My GS-R transmission was from a wreck, pass. side mount was almost torn right off, [got it for $25] pulled it apart, hammered the mount back into place and had a shop weld both the outside and inside, used an air dremel on the inside where the weld interfered with clearance, 9 years later and 6 years of autocross, [on a 75 shot] and it still works without any problems. 94
