1991 EF Mini me starting issue
Hows it going honda-tech. I didn't think I would be coming on the internet with my problems but this EF has left me clueless. My car is a 91 EF with a Mini-Me swap. It's a D15 with a Z6 head. I bought it off a kid he says the Ecu is chipped with a 5000 launch control and the redline is 8k. also has a integra intake. SO ANYWAY. I bought the car with a huge timing issue the motor was turning over very very slowly. When I went to look at the car it took a little bit but we had it running for a few minutes, motor was way to retarded timed. I brought the car home, my friend and I tore the head off the car and top dead center the pistons and heads got the firing order in the correct way (i hope.) I read over like 20 forums reading the firing order. So the car cranks now but just won't fire over. Its getting fuel like crazy, and getting great spark. its got a new dizzy and plugs. the compression is 150 and gaining on all four. it cranks over quickly now but won't start. I had my friend sit in the ef while i took a j-hook and towed him behind my chevy trying to get it to start. it would run while pulling it and when you stop it dies. the fuel pump is good too. Tried spraying fuel into the intake and that did nothing, prob because its already drowning in fuel. Also checked the fuel filter and by no means is it sending small amounts of fuel. also tried changing computers with a stock EG and that didn't do anything aswell. this car has my friend and i stumped like crazy.... it also has a new ignition. I spent all day today working on this thing. i would really hate to dismantle the motor again to re time it. i need it for this sunday so i can race it. thanks guys and I hope i can find a answer to my problems!!!
I had a similar problem, got fuel, spark, but wont start, i had the resistor box pinned to a15 and nothing. I moved the resistor box wire to a13, i depinned the yellow wire already in a13 and pinned in the resistor wire into a13 and it started right up. Hope this helps you out and also aquire a timing light with an advance **** it wil help get it timed properly
The wiring is a little bit of a mess he did a obd0 to obd1 I believe. But i just realized I never tightened the timing belt tensioner when I started cranking it. Doesn't seem like it was spinning fast enough to skip a tooth but wouldn't surprise me. So I guess I'll pull the head off again and Tdc everything, and be sure to tighten the tensioner.
Ya don't have to remove head to get cyl #1 to TDC,nope! (Unless you just like extra work/buying new head gaskets.and I hope that you didn't re-use the old HG even once!) Dude, all of this is covered in the FAQ stickied on this forum, and find a Helms manual for your year whilst reading/searching inet...
Well tonight i retimed the motor and it turns soooo much faster.. but yet again it still doesnt fire. I have the firing order all in align and has spark and fuel still. But no fire
!!! any ideas guys i really want to hear this thing run on its own power
