gsr ignition timing issues.. very strange
I bought a 96 rs integra with a gsr swap.. The intake cam was advanced one tooth when i got it and the headgasket was cooked.. I replaced the gasket and noticed that it has b17a cams instead of c1 cams.. Kinda shitty.. Anyways, i put it all back together and lined up the cams correctly.. When the two dots are lined up on the gears the crank pully is lined up with the single timing mark.. Also did screwdriver trick to make sure number one was up..
The car fired up and idled great but there is no power.. Felt like clogged cat so i punched it out and it was still slow and running very hot... So i advanced the distributor to the max and it ran wayyyyy better... It does have an msd 6al box and blaster coil and cap, could this cause a timing issue? Im stumped Nd the only.thing i can think of would be the stock cam gears aren't marked right? Im going to pull the valve cover and check the valve position tomorrow but Im wondering if anyone has experienced this before!!?

If you advanced it to the max there may still be a timing issue. Break out a timing gun and check if you can set ignition timing where it should be. If not then you know you have mechanical timing off.
I've had a ton of b series cars and I've never used a gun, just set in the middle.. Is it possible to need to run it so extreme? Seems off to me.. Ill get it diagnosed tomorrow ..
Then the answer is on your tons of cars you did it wrong. Setting the timing is the first and most important thing as the distributor uses 3 sensors to time injector pulse timing and ignition timing both of which affect efficiency and power. ask any tuner worth a **** if they will tune a car without setting the timing first. (here's a hint if they say yes they are NOT worth dick.)
