Went in to buy steel rims for winter. parts girl said i need the tpms aswell. i said no its fine i dont mind driving with the light on. she then proceeded to tell me that the traction control and abs all run off the tpms, without it, i risk not moving if i am stuck on ice or something

as far as i know, on toyotas and chryslers, all the tpms does is monitor tire pressure, and worst case scenario of not having them is just having the light on

was acura trying to **** me into buying tpms??

i call bs!!! i have aftermarket wheels with no tpms. no issues. driving it for a year now.

 

Yeah, I always follow the advice of somebody who probably hasn't ever been under the hood of any vehicle. Parts people are notorious for not knowing anything about actually working on a car.

TPMS stands for tire pressure monitoring system and that's it!!! They are feeding you a truck load of bull crap!!! There is a reason they work minimum wages jobs, they are usually idiots!!

Now if they were called TPMSABSTC's than you might have a problem!!!

 

She may not know ****..but Acura parts salespeople don't work for

It's a part of her job to keep the franchise safe by making sure you do everything correctly, but she should not be making stuff up in that process.

 

I will agree with the above, she was probably trying to keep the nameplate safe...My DD will disable my TC when the TPMS light is flashing (flashing for my car is more than just a couple pounds low). Maybe she came from BMW where that is the case....
I also love how all you guys are always quick to slam the parts workers (and the women in particular) for being idiots, and that they never work on cars either. These idiots are who you guys turn to when you can't find the parts you're looking for at your local parts palace.
