HELP do i take $400 for my 91 accord
so i got rear ended and pushed into another car. i have hood damage and it needs a new passenger side headlight. It also got some exhaust damage that i haven't looked at yet but the noise is vary low so im thinking it has a small hole, or where the cat meets the down pipe is leaking. (im an evo guy sry if the exhaust is different on Honda) The back is kinda messed up. Its not crushed and the trunk does close but u can poke a few fingers in there and look around. Where the to sides of the taillights meet they don't match up. It seems like the trunk mainly where the trunk locking mech is took most of the force pushing that toward the front of the car but it does close (barley) so thats a PLUS. Im fine with it as is but am also willing to fix the cheap things i can. Assuming the exhaust is an ez fix i can pound our the hood put in a new headlight and put a screw in the bumpers since they just got knocked lose and dont rly need replaceing. The car has 194,XXX orignal engine and tranny. I have had it for over 3 years and never had a problem. The insurance company is offering me $3000 and i keep the car or 3400 and they take it. I got offered 600 bucks this morning from a security guard (i gave him my #) so i dont know what to do. It was smogged last year so i got 1 more year. The evo's in the garage with a 30R turbo on e-85 so it gets 12 mpg insurance is 100 bucks a month so i kinda dont want to activate it so i can save some money up this year so im leaning towars saving the honda. I am fine driving it for the next year but since it has a salvage title now im scared that if i do drive it for the next year then go to sell it that there car will be pretty much worthless. My roommate said that they will give u $500 for anycar just for the scrap metal. So if thats true that would be awsome but if possible i would like to get more. So to summerize sorry for the long story.
I can go take pics if needed just a little early right now and i dont wana wake my roomie.
THANKS!!!!
1. how much is a 91 salvage title accord go for with and without above damage?
2. how much is it worth with only the trunk damge? (me fixing the rest)
3. Can u get $500 for scrapping any car?
4. In 1 year do u think i could sell the car with a salvage title for more then $400 with and without the damage. Also with only the trunk damage?

Usually takes a while for someone to respond, have patience. Part of the problem is you pretty much can answer your own questions. If you're looking to get somebody to say it's worth more you're probably not gonna find anyone. I wouldn't buy it, even if you fixed the front. Not trying to offend, just giving ya brutal honesty.
i know how forums work just kind of funny how many people looked without replaying. Thanks for your replay thats exactyl what im looking for i wasnt sure how bad salvage title is. Now this could help me this is the way im thinking of it and if someone can help confirm the # that would be great. So im familiar with a integra gsr a clean one goes for about 4 grand without an absurd amount of miles correct? Now that same clean gsr with a salvage title is prob only worth about 1000? if thats true that makes my honda almost worthless IMO.
Personally, I think a salvage title is automatically worth half of book... even if it looks perfect. Then goes down from there for work that needs to be done to it. The biggest thing for me is that dealers won't take it for a trade in, they won't even give you scrap value.
why just take the 3400 thats an awsome price... its not even worth the time time to fix and try to sell it! Right now scrap metal is 250 for a ton, you tell me but I dont think you would get 500. A ton is 2000lbs and i know a 91 accord isnt 4000 lbs you are looking at maybe 300 at the yard. If I were you I would give it up and get another they go around here for about 1500 bucks. Some insurance companys are cool and you can get one with crappy interior and pay dirt cheap and they will let you swap your interior into the new one.

It's not worth it unless the damage is so minimal that it barely qualifies for a "total", yet you can still fix it yourself(or with help of someone you know) for minimal cost. That's actually a really good deal from the insurance company, obviously assuming it only includes the property damage and not bodily injury. It'd probably be best to just take the full $3400 and give up the car.
thanks for all the responses lets me add a couple things i get the $3000 check and then i have 60 days to sell the accord to them for an additional $400. Me and my wife live next door to her parents and her dad is a shade tree mechanic. So fixing it will not be hard. (exept the trunk that i think is not worth it) Thanks for the info about the salvage title. I guess i am going to have to pull the evo out the garage and insure it. Lucky im 25 now and my tickets fell off this year! Ima miss the honda but being a 2.2 L 4 speed auto the MPG sucked. I know 2.2 L is prob 40% more torquey but it got like 24 mpg. I did wana put my stock evo 9 turbo on it tho guess that will never happen
I think i would rather have a 1.6L single cam in something small. I bought this accord for $500 u think i will be able to find a 1.6:L single cam in something small for $500 again?
