Denso O2 Sensor Replacement Part #?
Hello everyone,
My wife has a 2001 Honda Accord 4 cyl 2.3 L Value Package. The CEL came on and I took it to our local auto parts store who scanned it and said it was Oxygen Sensor 1 Bank 1. I then took it to our local (trusted) mechanic who said that it was in fact this sensor that needed to be replaced not another issue. I replaced the sensor myself with Denso 234-9014. I ordered it from Amazon who said this was the correct part. Before ordering I checked a number of other sites on the internet and they said this was the correct replacement for the vehicle as well.
I put the sensor in last night torqued it to 33 lbs (Honda spec) made sure that all the connections are tight and then tried to clear the CEL. I could not do so myself so I took it to the local auto parts store who were likewise unable to clear it. I just called Honda to find the exact part number which is 36531-PAA-305. The Denso sensor that I put in (the piece that actually gets screwed in) looked a little different (it had fewer holes) but I put it in anyway because this was listed as the correct replacement. I contacted the seller who seems really confused by the whole thing.
The car is running much better but the light is still on. Any ideas as to what is going on? Did I perhaps use an incorrect replacement part despite what the sites said? There are other Denso part numbers that I have found today which are also listed as replacement parts for this vehicle. I am really confused.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Thanks in advance.
It could be that the part you bought though new, it's defective. Another cause could be the connector is not tight and thus the ECU gives a CEL. Check the contacts on the plug.
cross reference the PNs at www.densoaftermarket.com
denso 234-9025 (for ULEV engines) has more holes than denso 234-9014 (for SULEV engines)

denso's site shows 234-4620 as the correct part for the upstream sensor on DX & Value package trim. Looks like you have the wrong part...
EDIT: i think the ULEV and SULEV use a wideband sensor upstream. densos site lists 234-9014 as an air/fuel ratio sensor (not an oxygen sensor/narrowband). you want 234-4620 for your non ULEV vehicle

Thank you everyone for your replies and advice.
dpetro1, Thanks for the information and looking into this. Wish I would've gone directly to the Denso site before placing my order. I contacted the seller and they are going to take the wrong part back, send me the right one (an NTK, not Denso, unfortunately--but the part numbers do check out), and refund me the difference.
