Default Need a clutch-suggestions, havn't looked in a while

Hey All,

Before you freak out and ask me to search I just wanted some input on clutches for my 97R.
I currently have a 8.5lb flywheel and clutch from Competition Clutch that I got about 2 years ago. The setup totally sucks and didn't last very long.
I want a good sturdy replacement that doesn't completely suck like The competition Clutch set up

Have their been any revolutionary changes in type R clutch designs in the past 2 years that I should know about? (i know there haven't been but I figured I would ask)

I was thinking of the Exedy Racing- Stage 1 Organic clutch.
sound like a good choice?
Car is stock engine wise except intake

TIA

So How did that setup suck? I ran egay clutch in my gsr for 4+ years (Its still holding up good.)...

If you abuse your clutch disc (especially if its organic) they wont last long. So maybe get ACT stage 2ish.

I'm still a fan of the ACT HD-SS. Good feel even when slipping the clutch, and enough holding power for anything less than 300 HP. The cons are the slightly higher price tag and what I would consider short life. Some of the pressure plate fingers dropped after 25k miles causing the pedal to drop pressure in the upper half of travel. Clutch life was okay.

I do not abuse the clutch at all. The only thing about it is it chatters alot and the throwout bearing went bad wayy too quickly. It just never felt as good as ACT or excedy clutches I have had in the past. My gsr has an ACT and I love it, my old race car had an ACT as well and they just had much better initial grip and stood up to abuse
It is a stage 2 clutch that is in it right now and it just never felt as good as the pricier ones.

I've ran the Exedy Stage 1 for the past 3 years and love it, zero complaints. I run pretty much stock numbers so it's perfect.

I love the feel of the Exedy Stage 1, but if your R is stock and you're looking to save a little $, you may want to consider the Exedy OEM replacement clutch. I just picked one up for a little under $100 shipped. The Stage 1 will cost you more than twice that.

Exedy Stage 1 for a daily, Exedy Stage 2 if you will be seeing the track. I personally run the Exedy Stage 2 and it does see daily driving. No complaints what so ever and it is super smooth unless I am tired which isn't a bad thing because it wakes me up when I get sloppy and it grabs that hard where you think the transmission just fell out of the car lol. I highly recommend it.

What does track use have to do with anything?

Pick the clutch based off the tq that you produce, no need to overkill the purchase for no reason.

Cerametallic don't get nearly as greasy when they are hot. They hold up to heat a lot better.

You've already answered your own question. (Exedy stage 1 is fine).. BUT, if you're type of racing abuses that clutch rather quickly (clutch dumping, drag racing, etc), then you need something stronger that will not be as kind to you on the street.

Yeah I know that I already kinda answered my question. I was just making sure that there wasn't any thing new that I hadn't looked into.

I don't track the car anymore, used to go to thunderhill 3 weekends a month, but no longer
exedy stage 1 it is

thanks for the input

CC stage 2. Is it the dual compound with Kevlar?

fair enough. I know I have close to 40 track days on my regular old stage 1 and has never been an issue.

For those who track you do not need a heavy duty clutch disk. Many rock a stock clutch or Exedy OE replacements with little/no issues as Steve highlighted above.
