Help B16a died!
I've got a first gen b16a in my CRX. Been running it for about 8 months no problem. I took it road racing at a driver's school and it died on the way back.
Compression is good, timing belt is good and the timing is correct, it's getting fuel(loosed a fuel line and it sprayed), it's getting spark too as I pulled out the wires and fired them. I'm not getting any CEL's either so I'm kinda stumped.
The only thing I think it could be at this point is the MSD 6A aftermarket ignition, but I'm not sure as it is getting spark.
thanks for any help.

Also, when I crank it, it consistently turns over a couple of times then kinda backfires. Is this an ignition and/or distributor issue?
i would say distributor, but check your spark plugs and wires first.

)if it's not backwards, it at least has something to do with the damn thing i bet.
I had the exact same symptoms and it turned out that my rotor screw had backed itself out and the rotor came loose inside the distributor cap. Hope it's that easy of a fix for you.
The rotor was turning when I took off the distributor cap and cranked the engine. How can I test the distibutor? Should I take all four spark plus out, hook them up to the plug wires and make sure they all individually fire? Can my ignition/distributor still be messed up even if they do fire?
Also, the distributor is on correctly, I was driving back from College Station to Austin when it went. I was just taking off from a light and as I shifted from 1st to 2nd it just died.

really I didn't know that, I'll have to bust out the manual then, I was just gonna crank the engine and use my timing light to see if the timing was way off.
the set screw in the distributor rotor fell out most likely so when you are taking off the distrib be carefull, and don't lose the set screw and then when you find it, just put lock tite on it and it will be fine. check that out.

please describe exactly how it died. If by chance it just backfired and died, rpms just drop to zero, then you have an ignitor problem. You say you have spark, is it strong or a week little yellow spark? I think you will find that it is either a coil or ignitor problem. do you still have your d series dist laying around in your garage? if so the coil and ignitor are interchangable. try the ignitor first, and if that doesn't fix it it is the coil for sure. It's not the coil because I tried the MSD ignition test which shows a Very strong output from the coil. I'll check the ouput in the actual spark plugs to see if it's the ignitier. Thanks.
It didn't backfire or misfire when it died. I was taking off from a light at medium to low acceleration, and as I shifted to second it died. Just died went dead. Upon attempting to restart it conistently cranks a couple or a few times then misfires/backfires very weakly.
Also, all the plugs, wires, and pins in the connectors to the top left of the distributor are intact and there are no bent or loose pins.

It sounds like you jumped timing but you say it is all where it should be. Have you read your plugs? What do they tell you? Definately getting Fuel. Is it the right pressure? Are the injectors working? Keep us posted. Good luck.
Just finished fixing it. It was the Distributor Rotor! The thing had melted and twisted about 45 degrees. I thought it was fine b/c it was on there really solid, but upon closer inspection I saw that the plastic was melted and twisted.
Well it did it again. Exact same failure, the end of the rotor nearest the engine melted and the rotor twisted. Are the bearings in my distributor bad? I'm guessing I need a whole new distributor so I'm gonna start looking for one tomorrow.
90-93 Integra right? That's what I got the rotor for, I hear that only two bolts line up but this is good enough.
