I have a 90 CRX with a manual transmission. I replaced the clutch and bearings about 3 months ago and randomly on friday the check engine light came on. From a dead stop the engine will bog down when starting out of first but within about 30 seconds of giving it gas it will slowly work up to 2000rpm's and all of a sudden take off. In order to bypass this problem at stop lights I've been revving up the engine before letting out the clutch and this works well enough in a pinch. I tried to pull the check engine light codes but it will give me nothing. The light won't even come on until I physically start the car and it goes off as soon as I turn the car off. It won't flash while the car is on either, just a solid check engine light. A couple times the light stayed off when starting the car and the problem went away completely until I turned it off and back on again. Another time I started it and the light stayed off until I shifted into first which then it came on immediately. Otherwise, the car idles fine and the only other problem it has is when it's in the heat it tends not to start the first time but always the second time. Why is there no code? What is going on in my car?

Also checked engine for milky substances and radiator for exhaust leaking in case of a blown head gasket, but neither occurred.

Also try cleaning the G101 ground on the thermostat housing and resoldering the main relay.

 

I'll give it a try but I don't have another ecu or know where to get one that I know works. Besides the check engine light any opinions on what might be causing the way it's driving? I've come to realize now that it still has these symptoms even when the check engine light is off it's just not as severe when the light is off. Thanks for any help
