I just finished getting my car smog today and it passed. Although the engine was not original. My 1990 civic hatch came with d16z6 vtec and the previous owner did all the work and got BAR sticker for the engine.

at first the smog tech didnt want to smog the car because the engine was not original. but he saw the bar sticker so he said it was okay to smog. btw he said that 1991 below vehicles can not use newer engines without getting it registered/bar sticker. He said my car can only use engines that are from 1988 to 91 bar without sticker. so am glad it all worked out.

Anyways he said i would need a new clutch soon. anyone have recomendations?

What model is your hatch is it Si or DX? This will help us understand which transmission you have so we can guide you to a selection of clutches. Likely a basic Exedy kit should be fine for you.

 

It a 1990 civic hatch si. But like i said the engine is not original and so maybe the tranny too.
