i popped my hood last night because my lowbeams quit working for some reason.... only to hear a hissing and bubbling sounds. after looking around my battery has alot of acid on top of it and was hissing.. what could cause this or is my battery just shot. or should i look into header wraps to keep my bay cooler
Batteries make bubbles when charging. Vigorous bubbling, accompanied by headlight filaments melting (you did mention your headlights went out...) is a clear indication of alternator overcharging. Check with voltmeter, replace voltage regulator and/or look for voltage drops too.

Sometimes when a battery has a dead/bad cell. batteries get really hot and do the samething as well. I agree, dont drive it till you figure out what is wrong with it.

i did notice that when i was driving and i would coast in nuetral my lights would dim. as like lower rpms alt spins slower and less power. if this helps. also i do not have access to a voltmeter or anything like that since i am up at school and home is 2 hour drive away. doesnt autozone test alternators and batterys for free?
most likely dead or bad cell and the alternators charging it like crazy trying to keep it alive. i agree figure out the problem befor driving it any more.
