Default Identifying Connecting Rods

Recently picked these rods up for $30 and was wondering what manufacturer these are from. They have 3/8ths head size ARP bolts.

Any help is appreciated.

Crower puts their name on stuff. There has been a lot of outfits over the years selling h and I beam rods like that with the length in ink. I think it would be difficult or impossible to establish exactly who sold those.

it could be a d16 or ls rod... without lots of measurements you cant tell, normally if its a lot bigger on the little end its an ls, this looks like a d16 rod (the numbers are rod length in inches)
they look like blueprintracing rods but the surface finish makes me think china rod

you need to measure the rods...

these are the measurements for a d16 rod.

- Piston Pin Dia: 0.748" , 19.01mm
- P.E. Width: 0.710" , 18.04mm
- B.E Bore: 1.890" , 48.001mm
- B.E. Width: 0.898" , 22.8mm

if any thing is different its an ls rod

The guy that sold them to me said they came out of a B20 short block he tore down but didn't know what brand they were.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Probe-I-Beam...f5370e&vxp=mtr

but they aren't all that great for boosted apps... they are mainly designed for high rpm all motor setups, i beams tend to do bad things under boost

I have Crower I beam rods in my engine. I actually spoke to crower about them and they said they were fine for my FI setup and that they'd handle a lot more power than I was looking for (450whp).

What bad things do you mean ? Are they suppose to bend ?

probe's are designed differently... they are made specifically to be an ultra-light rod for reduced rotational mass... they weigh less than any other i-beam.. probe designed them for high rpm na use only, no nitrous, forced induction, etc.

they only weigh 430g which is very very light. they'll bend and warp under high cylinder pressures and ultimately break. probe even tells you this.

normally you can use an i beam rod like crower up to 500hp (crank) max and thats really pushing the rod... id say a safe boosted power level for something like the probes would be 300-350 but i don;t know anyone thats ever used them on a boosted motor due to their light weight

You must be referring to the Crower Maxi-light rod and not the regular Crower steel billet rod...

Probe has a private label program for their products.. i wouldnt be surprised if Crower used this program..

On Probes website, they show Scat rods which look like Probes and also the SRP pistons from JE look like Probes as well..

This is just my speculation on the SRPs.. But I wouldnt be surprised if it was true

a lot of companies put the length in ink, crower does not have an i beam design like probe, the rounded machined pockets on the rod are probe's little identifier
