Icon3 b18 vs k20

so im trying to do my homework here. what is better a jdm b18c or k20a for low budget? would it be better to put in a b18 and put aftermarket internals in and boost it at like 30 pounds. or should i wait and save up for the k20 swap with no boost for while. i have a d15b8 with 327xxx miles. what would be better stronger reliable and be able to be daily driver?

man you really gotta do some more reading, the cost difference is huge, the power difference is huge.

kinda a question of personal preference and opinion. what do you want? you're too vague

You should keep your current motor in there.

One does not simply "put aftermarket internals in and boost it at like 30 pounds".

Head over to the forced induction forum and start reading.

K20 and low budget do not belong in the same sentence

B18 and 30lbs of boost dont belong in the same sentence w/o mentioning sleeves.

Boosted GSR will blow away any N/A Kseries. Decide what you want to do. cuz either will cost thousands.

Just throwing a number to this so you know where you stand budget wise. A k20a swap into your chassis will cost approx 7 to 8 grand with all the parts needed not including labor. And to build a b18c to hold that kind of boost would cost you more then that. Because its not as simple as just engine work. You would need to upgrade transmission parts and axles. And 30 pounds of boost is not really daily drivable. Just some food for thought. IMO do a simple gsr swap and if you get bored with that upgrade from there. The difference from your 1/3 of a million mile engine and a stock gsr or type r would be night and day.

Why don't u give h2b a chance? It's a nice setup and its on the affordable side.. read up on it and you might find that to be an option. I did that setup and I will not go back to any b series. No k for me either due to too much customization for that swap. And the price is redunkulous ..

For 5 grad you could type r swap our car or as dohcem1 suggested a h2b swap and boost either at a later date. And I would say stock internals on a b18 might hold 8 to 10 pounds of boost. But you would have to research that in the forced induction forum. I personally prefer naturally aspirated engines my self because they are a lot more responsive and a lot more responsive. A h2b setup in your car would pull really hard due to the torque that engine makes and the shorter gear ratios of the b series trans. And the type r swap is a rev happy engine that will hold 9 thousand rpm all day and really easy to make 200 plus whp with. Start small and work from there.

this is like 350sb vs ls1. there will always be b-series guys and there will always be those who convert to k. i prefer b cause its what i know. just build what you want and not whats popular

Wow not one vote for ls/t. Ls in STOCK form has made over 300whp many times over. Ls's are super cheap, and can be had almost anyday of week looking around.

You could turbo stock ls for under 5g's and make north of 275whp with cost of swap and tune

now this is the only thing idk much about building a motor i would probably only have enough knowledge on how to put a motor in. so how would you build an ls? is it a b20 block with b16 head or b20 block with b18 head or how would you period? is it hard at all and what are the benefits of an ls vs a gsr swap???

No building. Buy a b18b1/a1 or jdm b18b same thing (minor compression diff), drop in car, drive, save for nice QUALITY turbo kit, bolt on get DYNO TUNED (no base map ****). Have fun

Ls/t= b18b1/turbo
B18b1 or b18a1= LS

My current ls was turbo'd in buddys last car with custom gt30r @12psi made 320ish. 100% stock bottom end, crower valve train, and crower 404 cams thats it bottom never touched and had150k + miles, now has 170k + miles still has 186-190psi across all 4 cly

just buy a spare d16 and build it on the side then turbo it..... no sense in spending 5k on a swap and then building it and boosting it anyways. the "first turbo kswapped eg" people just have too much money and time on their hands because youll be able to produce the same HP with a ls, even a d16, unless youre going for high HP numbers, which still, might be attainable on the ls block.....

buy a h22a swap if you want the power of a k series for a low cost.

all honda motors are strong if you take care of them.

a b20 is basically a bored out LS motors. you would have to sleeve it though because the walls are thinner so they are prone to cracking. also go with a b16 head, same internals as a type r.

but im not a big fan of frankenstien swaps. i would suggest saving for a stock motors as a platform; more reliable. if you want to boost something for cheap power u can get a LS or a single cam and boost it.

if you want the same power as a k series and boost it, get a F20B. has iron sleeves so it can handle the boost. the motor is about
$900 for a long block from hmotorsonline. thats where i bought mine.

good luck on your knowledge hunt.

Cheapest would be a Vitara D16 build.

Next up, boosted stock LS, followed by your other swaps mentioned in this thread.

i'm not tryin to bash, but you have LOTS of homework to do...you're too all over the place on power goals, and engine choice...i've done a few d and b swaps and im in the process of puttin a k20z1 in my eg sedan and i STILL consider myself a noob...none of what you're asking can be answered in one thread because you're not asking one question, but thats just my $0.02...but good luck with whatever u decide on homie
