Default Dizzy adjustment question

So I have a D15b vtec obd-1 in my Wagon.
Has a D16Z6 dizzy.
My D15b seems to like the dizzy advanced decently, mechanical timing is correct. Has anyone noticed this with similar setups? I'm sure it's ben t

Something about the D16 having a higher deck, longer stroke, D15 needs the dizzy advanced to make up for shorter stroke? JUst been thinking about it. Dont have access to a timing light either. Any input? I'm sure someones talked about this somewhat or knows something? Just doesn't feel right without it seeming to be advanced.

My car was like that as well. Turned out that my mechanical timing was off and I had to compensate by advancing the ignition timing
Check your mechanical timing.

I'm sure the mechanical timing is right, it runs pretty damn smooth, just feels "flat" when you get past a certain point of throttle. Feels a little better with timing advanced. Only other code is tps. I know I need to get one asap. wiring is right sensor is jacked.

so a tps.. which is your throttle position sensor.. is jacked up on ur car and your saying the throttle feels flat once u get past a certain point.. i would fix all the know issues first with my car then post if still having issues...

check your fuel pressure
Where exactly does the idle feel rough?

I know, I ran it unplugged for a while but it would sometimes die whenever I gave it gas, otherwise it ran way better, so I just leave it plugged in so it never has the chance to do that. Pretty sure its also keeping vtec from working as it needs load to activate.

Idle feels fine, keep mine around 900, little rough under 800 rpm.

The tps is the next on the list, going to be a pain but its going to be 100% better.

your tps has nothing to do with VTEC... vtec is a oil pressure system.

What's the timing spec and what's the timing set at?
Maybe you need a valve job

Vtec requires

1. oil pressure vtps
2. vehicle to be traveling at speed vss
3. detection of load on engine tps
4. past set rpm

Might be missing something but should be the basics. For Obd-1 cars at least.

This is something ive been tossing around too. I've done it twice but dont think I took enough time with it. Possible I could have a couple a hair too tight.

and that statement right there is why i don't try to give advice to people on forums.. if you knew what your issue was the chances are you might not be here.. ive posted about things i thought was my issue just to get a 2nd opinion and my opinion has been right 95% of the time.

Vtec was a side note, but 95% of threads about vtec mentioning tps explain that vtec is load dependent. Why would my vtec engage at 10% throttle app just because Im past 5200 rpm? It would be incredibly pointless. Show me a video of someone activating vtec while cruising slowly past the required rpm and I will take back everything I said and disclaim everything I've read.

Everyone has told me that loose is better than tight
loose= poor performance
tight=burnt valve seats and fuel efficieny

Sweet deal.

Anyways, thank you to others that gave input. Tomorrow is valve lash, tps, and set ignition timing. See what we have from there.

Exactly, last thing I need to be doing is burning up valves and nobody likes losing power. Seems about right, I dont think theyre terribly out of adjustment, low to mid range power is decent, just lacks once up past 3500-400 and past. Timing and valves for sure.

Based on the information provided, there are two obvious things that need to be done before anything else:

1) Fix the TPS code - this can be a TPS, wiring, or ECU problem. Start by voltage and Ohm testing the TPS and wires. If you replace the TPS, understand that it must be voltage calibrated.

2) Get a timing gun and adjust the ignition timing to spec.
