Detonation: Detonation is the spontaneous combustion of the end-gas (remaining fuel/air mixture) in the chamber. It always occurs after normal combustion is initiated by the spark plug. The initial combustion at the spark plug is followed by a normal combustion burn. For some reason, likely heat and pressure, the end gas in the chamber spontaneously combusts. The key point here is that detonation occurs after you have initiated the normal combustion with the spark plug.

Pre-ignition: Pre-ignition is defined as the ignition of the mixture prior to the spark plug firing. Any time something causes the mixture in the chamber to ignite prior to the spark plug event it is classified as pre-ignition. The two are completely different and abnormal phenomenon.

Cliff notes plz.

Reading it right now while in class. Tgis was my main worries for boosting. I new 3 guys tgat worked at a shop here in san jose. They decided to drve their boosted cars to take their girlfriends to disnyland. All 3 of the got detenation on the way down and grenaded their motors.

 

thats how most of the young people are now. its pretty tragic really...if you think its bad on here try teaching them science when they would rather be texting each other. oh yea, if they dont perform you get fired. on top of that, its a loosing battle trying to take their cell phones. there, you now have a cliffs notes of my daily life lol.

yea the article is damn good. i read the first half of it and plan on coming back to it later when im done making dinner. good find.
