Icon2 1989 Wagovan RT4WD O2 sensor code, running funny

My civic wagon runs funny, under heavy acceleration it dies down to 1k rpm and then tries to gain again and then dies and repeats, only does this in 1st gear under heavy acceleration or up hills, obd0 code 1 is on i believe for o2 sensor? don't know if it's a fuel problem or just need a new cat/o2 sensor, anyone had this problem before?

it's only $14 for a universal denso o2 at autozone. swap out and see. the cheapest way to find out is to take it out and let it soak in carb cleaner, reinstall and then see

If you unplug the O2 sensor, does the problem go away?

Is the cat clogged?

When was the fuel filter last replaced?

Yea it doesn't seem like the cat is plugged because i still see good exhaust escaping, i'll try unplugging the 02 sensor and see what that does, i was thinking maybe fuel pump since it starts kinda hard

ok, i unplugged the 02 sensor located on the exhaust manifold and the light on the ecu is still indicating code 1, the car ran exactly the same with it unplugged and the check engine light on the dash still did not light up, sound like the problem is the 02 sensor?, think i'll just change it and see what happens

This^ result tells you that the problem is NOT caused by the O2 sensor, even though the O2 sensor may be bad.

When was last tune up done (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition timing)?

Have you measured the fuel pressure and tested the FPR?

i'm not sure, plugs look fine, it's just so weird that it only does this in 1st gear under load or heavy acceleration

Do the things I mentioned and then go from there.
