Could be either the cat or the 2nd O2 sensor. At 110K miles, I'd say it's about 50/50 as to which is the problem. I would probably replace them both.

Thanks. Where is the o2 sensor? If I try to solve the problem by trial and error, I think it would be a lot cheaper to first replace the 02 sensor. I think that was replaced on my daughters Celica at $60 or so.

Just behind the cat, tapped into exhaust pipe. You are correct, they are about $60ish

Thanks for the info. To order the part, what should I ask for?

ahhh... P0420 codes.

Its your Catalytic Converter. replace it.

if you had a problem with either of your o2 sensors, the ECU would store a hard code on it as well.

not so. The o2 can become biased but the ecu will think that it is functioning normally and that the cat is at fault.

check my sig...

in my case I am running *rich* I think (valve stems/seals leaking) and getting a new cat would just cook it so I did this as a substitute to just get the CEL off.

My 98 Prelude has the same code. I was wondering, if you fixed that problem. What was the problem? The o2 or the catalyst system?

Thank you,
Jack Yang

Haven't been able to get out the o2 sensor. I assume it has been on the car for the last 10 yrs. I put a lot of muscle on it(albet while lying on my back) but could not get it to budge.
