One of my R's has had a terrible grind in 2nd gear ever since I bought it. I finally found a local shop that specializes in Honda transmissions, so I took it over there the other day. He pulled it and said I need the 2nd gear synchro along with the 1st-2nd gear sleeve set. His cost from Honda was $90 on the synchro and $330 for the sleeve set. I would prefer to go with OEM parts, but I figured I'd see if anyone had any cheaper/better aftermarket alternatives to offer up. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

syncrotech is a good place to check out, they also can carbon coat the syncros:

we have been using the Synchrotech stuff...it does the trick and very nice to be able to order the invidual parts you need instead of having to get complete gear sets from Honda

Don't know where he is getting his pricing. The 2nd gear synchro is not available individually from Acura or Honda (99/00 Si 2nd sleeve assembly is the same as the ITR).
$330 for the sleeve assembly is what most online dealerships charge.
It's more expensive from Synchrotech (retail) especially if you want the carbon-lined synchros. Note that you will more than likely need the countershaft 2nd gear as well, which isn't included from Acura/Honda or Synchrotech. It is $88 from an online dealership.
